Laplaya Complaint - Hotel Stay - Hotel Room

I am a single mother who only has one income coming into our family. My daughter and I never got a chance to take a family trip because of finances. My car was paid off last year so this gave me a little extra to save for a family trip. I started saving for the trip about two months after I paid my car off. My daughter decided she wanted to go to some part of Florida. We decided on Daytona Beach, Florida. We went on-line and looked over several of the hotels and cost. We decided on La Playa because from the pictures it looked like a nice place. We were so wrong; when we go to the hotel we were so disappointed. The Hotel room smelled an the bathroom was falling apart with rust stains everywhere. I had to go across the street and get cleaning supplies from the Dollar Tree to clean my room. We were so disappointed. Our first family trip and is was a disaster. I have spoken with the Hotel Manager, Don Munderean, he did give me back half of my hotel stay but to me that was still not satisfication in the mess we had to stay in for 7 days. I will never, ever, reserve anything else through Priceline. I can't believe your company would rent out a hotel this disgusting. It is not even fit for roaches or animals to stay in let alone humans.

This would have been an ideal complaint to have photos included. Without them, it is only a description from a guest. I will say that refunding half the amount is unusual and says a lot for the management to try and be fair to a guest. Most gripes of unhappy rental stays completely fall on deaf ears.

The OP is unhappy and came here to voice their complaint/concern. If it saves even one consumer from having a bad experience at this hotel I would say it is a good thing!

What I want to know, is if the OP mentioned anything at all to hotel. Did they give the hotel a chance to fix things (by cleaning the room or putting the op into another room)? Or did they just wait the seven days, and start complaining as they were leaving?

GG - that's what I'm wondering

because if a place is too nasty to stay in why would you stay there a week? why not ask to get a different room or find some place cleaner?

I'm somewhat wondering if "buyer's regret" played a part in this.

Sometimes in a popular destination it's almost impossible to find lodging elsewhere at the last moment. Sometimes, also, if a sporting event/concert is taking place in the area all rooms are booked so whatever you have you're pretty much stuck with unless you want to sleep in your car. Refunding half the price for the week sounds fair unless someone wants the entire price refunded. I don't need a photo. If someone tells me a place is nasty I'll take their word for it.

I understand that there may have been no other rooms available, but the hotel just refused to clean the room? I find that difficult to believe. Being an economical traveler myself, I've seen some .. sketchy places. Even in the worst, if I asked for the room to be cleaned..they have cleaned it. Not saying a discount is not right, just wondering about the circumstances. Ie was the place given the chance to make it right?
