Household Bank Platinum Mastercard (HSBN) Complaint - SCAM ALERT!!!! VERY DECEPTIVE COMPANY - do business with them at your own risk!
HSBN has to be one of the WORST companies I have dealt with. In my opinion, they are no better than con artists, scam runners, and liars on the planet. How they are still able to conduct business is beyond me.
Accessing my account, online, has been a joke. When I get to the site and enter my personal information... I get "shut out" because of providing incorrect information. I know what I entered was correct so there was NO reason to lock my account.
THEN, in order to proceed, you are told you have to answer the security questions correctly. Once that is done, the account will be unlocked.
OMG!!! I can perfectly understand verifying my account number, address, mother's maiden name, (etc.) but the plethora of other questions was INSANE! One of the "security" questions was for me to verify my HEIGHT. What does my height have to do with accessing my account?
I told the representative I NEVER gave them my height so how on earth would they know if what I said was correct. She said it was a matter of PUBLIC RECORD.
Public Record? My private information wasn't enough to unlock my account, but giving PUBLIC INFORMATION WILL? Uh, public means ANYONE has access to the information... which also means ANYONE could be approved by knowing that? That is absolutely crazy.
Why would any reputable company require such? Most rational individuals wouldn't provide all of that information, over the phone, to God only knows who. The bank I use doesn't even ask these type of questions. If an individual DOES provide everything these idiots DEMAND, it would be VERY easy for someone to destroy your finances, credit, and ruin your life.
After the what's your height question, I refused to provide any more information. I was told my account would remain locked and access denied. It was my choice though... but know that it would prohibit me from any information, INCLUDING THE ABILITY TO MAKE A PAYMENT!!! To me, this was just another "scam" to get MORE fees (late fees, over the limit or what have you).
I had asked to talk to a supervisor and then a manager, but kept getting the same lines. I must provide ALL of the information they asked for or be locked out until I did. I asked the supervisor if she was stating the company would refuse a payment by me?
She said NO. THEY weren't refusing anything. I had the choice to comply with their requirements and that would fix the problem. Therefore, it would be MY choice as to the consequences. With a locked account, I would not be able to pay on my account by phone or online. However, I could MAIL a payment, but that would take much longer than just providing the information they had to have.
I still refused. She said that was my choice. If that was my decision, there was nothing further she could do for me and our conversation was over. How a company can practice in this manner, LEGALLY, is mind blowing.
For the record: I've been paying on this card for a very long time. I am NOT charging additional items. I make more than the required minimum monthly payment. And, this month I owe MORE than I did last month. Now, how can that be? Instead of a balance going down... it goes up? At this rate, I will be paying this bill with my social security check!
Do not let yourself be lured into getting their credit card. If it sounds too good to be true or like a wonderful "deal" beware...
