EBay Complaint - EBay's Buyer's Protection Does NOT Work
On August 13, 2011 I bought a Western Digital 3TB hard drive on eBay for $33.99. Without notifying me, eBay canceled the listing for the item I bought. But, fortunately, I found out about it when I tried to locate the item. I immediately opened an Item Not Received claim with eBay. After the dispute case was opened, the seller responded by telling eBay the item had been shipped and provided a USPS tracking number. I agreed to wait for the package shipped. When it I arrived I found out that the seller shipped a Chinese coin to me instead of a computer hard drive. I informed eBay. The latter, instead of treating the act of the seller as an attempt to deceive, transformed the case into an Item Not As Described case and required me to ship the coin back to the seller by Sept. 15 by FEDEX or UPS. The cost of shipping the coin back to the seller in China by UPS was $89.67 and by FEDEX, $63.18. The refund I was claiming was only $33.99. I sent 3 emails to eBay informing it of this fact. I received no reply. On Sept. 16, 2011, eBay summarily informed that it was closing the case. I was told that I would receive not refund but I could keep the Chinese coin.
