Nikon Informative - Poor Product Backing
SUNBURY, OHIO -- I have always used Nikon products, but I'm afraid I have bought my last Nikon product.
About 4 years ago I bought a Nikon 400 laser rangefinder. This past hunting season I noticed my rangefinder was not measuring anything beyond abut 50 yards. It is supposed to measure out to 400 yards. I consulted the troubleshooting guide in my owner's manual to no avail. About 2 weeks ago I sent it off to Nikon hoping that they would stand behind their product. The rangefinder is out of warranty, but it seems to me the $200.00 unit should last more than 5 years.
Last week I got a letter back from Nikon with no explanation as to what's wrong with my rangefinder, but a bill for $176.00 to be repaired, or $10.00 and we'll send the broken thing back to you.
I think that's outrageous. This rangefinder was never abused, never dropped, never left out in the cold or heat, etc.
As I stated before, I've had four Nikon cameras, and still have one of them, and my current pair of binoculars are Nikons, but I can promise you, that I will never recommend Nikon to anyone, and I will do my best to recommend against buying Nikon in the future.
