Never shop at Brookstone again! I just returned an ultrasonic jewelry cleaner because it doesn't work/does nothing to actually clean jewelry. Anyway, I was in the store for over 1 hour because the morons working there could not process the return correctly. I paid using an ATM card on the little machine with my PIN number. They kept telling me they had to put the money back on my card, and I explained to them over and over that would not work because an ATM card is basically cash and only works one way, to pay out, not to take money in. I even called Citizens Bank and had the banker explain to the salesperon that they had to give me cash because money cannot be put back on an ATM card, and that using such a card is the same as paying cash. They still refused. Then they took about 1/2 hour trying to "cancel" the card transaction that NEVER WENT THROUGH in the first place geniuses! Then they took another 1/2 hour to process mailing me a check. Despite handing them my license, they managed to spell my address wrong. Then they had to do it again. And again. And again...... Such idiots. I refused to leave the store until I had physical paper in my hand showing that a check was being mailed to my correct address for the correct amount. Only took about an hour, wasted my entire lunch break!

Just because they could not process this transaction on this particular card, does not make them idiots.

When a PIN is required, isn't that considered a debit card?
