I was booked on JetBlue to leave West Palm Beach on Thursday, Aug. 25, the day Hurricane Irene was scheduled to hit West Palm. On Monday Aug 22 I called to see if I could get out of town early because I had a significant reason to be in Boston that week. For a change fee of $230 I got a flight on Tuesday, two days early. My original ticket cost $294. I think that addl air fare/change fee were excessive.

Look again because I'll bet the change fee was only $100. The rest was the difference in the fare.

Right - the ticket for a flight only a day or two prior to departure is going to cost a lot more than it did a few weeks or more earlier. The change fee was probably less than $230. One could find out by visiting the JB website and looking at the CoC agreement.
