Acer Informative - You get what you pay for......

Review by djay200156 on 2011-09-22
I have looked over a good deal of the reviews on this site about Acer, and it really comes down to the old saying "you get what you pay for." Acer products (this includes Gateway and Emachines as well), are the bottom of the rung in terms of quality and serfice. This is why they can afford to sell them so cheap! They are manufactured with the lowest quality parts (read cheapest to source) on the market. If you purchase these for a student or try to run your business off one, then it is just a matter of time before the unit falls apart or blows up, and you will be hating it.

If you want reliability and proper service, purchase a Lenovo Thinkpad or Sony VAIO. Even Toshiba will be a better choice. Look at business class computers, they are built to a higher standard. Tools, not toys....

I just find it funny that people pick these up on fire sales at Kmart, and then can't understand why they blow up after 6 months....

The heavily used acer notebook I bought a family member over 2 years ago ( yet to have a problem, knock on wood ) is in better shape than the newer, often dysfunctional, and more expensive Dell laptop of another family member. I still have an old Emachine sitting around ( 8 years old this year ) that runs like new that is used when my newer top dollar pc's decide to rebel.

+10 lexophiliac. I also have a very heavily used Acer laptop with which I have never had an issue. Yet a higher end Sony VAIO, costing 3 times the price of the Acer failed twice in 3 months.

My Acer Netbook ran perfect for three years until I just replaced it with a Touch Pad. I have since given it to my Daughter and its working perfect for her. My desk top work station is a Gateway and it has been error free for four years now. I did add a new 2 TB HD and max out the RAM which only made it better.

The Thinkpad's (old IBM's) are a very good laptop. I ran one of those for over six years until I gave it away too.

Point is? Everyone does not have the same problems with computers as everyone else. What is great for one is junk for another. I don't tell anyone to avoid DELL Hell because they are junk and prone to break. I let them know what I have learned and they can make up their own mind.

I have found that people get a virus because they were on a site they should not have been. Then when their PC goes bad they blame it on the PC. Bad software and viruses are the vast majority of the problems we see, not the hardware.

The only problem I have with my acer netbook is every now and then it gets that blue screen of death where it starts dumping memory.

Don't know whats causing it I have cleaned out my pc several times maybe its a bad drive but i'm starting to get annoyed by it.

I use it as my main computer at home .
