Maytag/Whirlpool Complaint - Maytag Dryers Are Junk - Maytag Bravo Dryer

Maytag Bravo Dryer - Complaint
Review by JLowe29101 on 2011-09-22
Bought a new Maytag Bravo dryer in Jan 2011. It has crapped out already with very little use. Repair people have been out 3 times and now have to refer it to the factory for "model review board" which take a week. They have replaced the board ($375 + labor +-), a thermal fuse($50 + labor+-) and another service call to determine they didn't know what was wrong and had to refer it to the Model review board. Been without a dryer for a week already and called the Maytag people this morning and told them I want a new dryer. THey said they have to exhaust all possibilities of fixing this peice of JUNK before they could move on to possible replacing the unit !!. What a total waste of money and time. I will have a new dryer in my house this evening, and it won't be anything made by Maytag or Whirlpool, and will turn the case over to an attorney. BUYER BEWARE of any Maytag because the repairman ain't so lonely anymore. I have a BIG MOUTH and by the time I get through with MY advertising on Maytag they will wish they had replaced my machine may times over. Better Business Bureau is my next letter.

Please give them some time to sort it out. Squeezing them may prove to be anti-productive. There is a process with all brands as to repair options must have met a threshold before a swap will be authorized. Legally they can just keep fixing it as that is honoring the warranty. Getting legal may be premature and forget the BBB. Maytag could care less as nobody who is thinking of buying a Maytag would go to Newton Iowa's BBB to check their report to finalize a decision.
I do sympathize with you. An 8 month old dryer that can't be fixed is pretty bogus. Hopefully they will do a swap for you soon without you having to really start to push it.
I'm not one who generally buys into a new dryer should be replaced anytime it needs a service call, but yours seems problematic and really should be exchanged in the name of good faith.

I agree with a lot of what Slimjim is saying. With all due respect, I don't see anyone going to an attorney over a dryer. Any reasonable attorney would begin by requiring a $1500 retainer which is more than what the value of the dryer is. The only thing is will do is close off communication with them. They'll immediately begin by referring you to their legal department, so nothing will come about.

Maytag, IMHO, has some really good appliances. I own them and love them. If you'll work with them, I'm sure they'd be much more willing to help you along the way.

Please keep in touch if everything isn't completed to your liking.

It looks like JUNK is the word of the day when referring to Whirlpool/Maytag. Their reputation is going down the toilet faster than you can flush.

Slim, I agree that a little patience can go a long way, but I can't help wondering how long it will take to "exhaust all possibilities". Possibly until the warranty expires? Sometimes the customer has to take a stand to get the company to do the right thing.
