Banfield Complaint - I Lost Jada

Review by skittlesaustin47 on 2011-09-22
My Westie was a apart of my family. I trusted Banfield. My Jada was bleeding from butt so I took him to Banfield the vet came and said he needed surgery. 1500 dollars. I said I didn't have money to do it said he was going to die if no surgery was done said I had 1 hour to put him to sleep before she left. He never had surgery done. He is okay. I thought he was going to die so I called Westie rescue. She would pay for surgery if I signed my rights away. I did just that the adoptees of Jada called me asked me why I got rid of Jada. I said I had no choice he was going to die, she told me no surgery was done. I got into state of depression and couldn't work, take care of my family. Just couldn't get out of bed. Please help me.

So sorry you lost your dog. So the rescue said they would pay for the surgery if you gave them the dog? And in the end no surgery was performed and the dog is fine? What was the reason for the bleeding? Was it fixed some other way? How is your dog doing now? Can you re-adopt him?

I am sorry to hear this happen. If you see other reviews about Banfield, things like this have happened there before.

Thank goodness your dog is fine. Shame on the vet for suggesting you put the dog to sleep since you could not afford a 1500 dollar surgery, when the dog did not end up needing surgery in the first place.

Is there any way you can get the dog back? Perhaps the adoptees will work it out with you, if you explain the entire situation.

Sad story. I'm wondering if the rescue figured out that the dog didn't need the op when it was adopted, and if they have a policy of not "undoing" surrenders. They may.

I am so sorry for the loss of your pet. I think, more than anyone, absolutely love animals and can understand how they become a member of your family. I, too, would wonder what the bleeding was.

I'm so sorry you had this terrible experience with your beloved pet.

Did the vet at Banfield, give you a diagnosis what was wrong with Jada? I'm not saying anything against this vet, but rectal bleeding could also just be mild constipation, which can lead to inflamation of surrounding tissue, therefore causing the bleeding, but unless she told you exactly what was wrong and what this surgery was going to do, you did what you felt was right for Jada.

Also, is it possible to re-adopt Jada back?

I took my 8 YO Chihuahua in with a heart murmur and coughing, her lungs were full of fluid and she was not getting oxygen. They put her on the table and put an IV in her for Lasix to get rid of fluid, and gave her oxygen, I was in there when they grabbed her hind legs and turned her upside down to drain the fluid. I left the room, was presented an estimate for bill, $166, they came out later and said her heart had stopped did I want to revive her, of course I said yes. So they have me come in to observe the heart massage and a few minutes later I go back in and she's got her little head propped up looking at me while her body hadn't moved, so later I felt this was wrong for arranging her head and being told to talk to her and pet her. When they massaged her heart the vet said she may have broken a rib and now they wanted to put her down. This was just everyday business to them and they were dramatizing like it was a soap opera. I paid $175 of $706. I plan to sue them for their grandstanding, which I consider it to be unethical and inhumane.
