Abe's of Maine Complaint - Defective TV - Samsung 64 inch 3D Plasma 8000

I purchased the Samsung 64inch 3D Plasma TV from Abe's of Maine. It took almost 2 weeks to arrive. Once the TV was plugged in, the TV would shoot a burst of color and would not turn on. I just paid $3000 for a TV that wouldn't work. I called Abe's of Maine and they said it was a Samsung issue and directed me to their technician. I ended up speaking to the office of the President of Samsung. They basically stated that 90% of the retailers out there would have accepted the TV back as a return and would have shipped a new one out and that I should never have bought the TV from Abe's of Maine. Now I have to wait a couple of weeks for Samsung to repair my brand new TV. If I were you, I would A) only purchase a TV from a company that will accept returns and B) Buy Sony.

I love Sony, but Samsung makes a good product too. In this case, it would seem the issue was much more about purchasing mail-order versus local.

Although I've bought small things mail-order, I'd never consider a larger item. Yes, you may get it a little cheaper and, because of tax laws, save the price of sales tax, but you run all of this risk on what I'd consider a fairly expensive purchase. Who knows? Maybe the damage was in transit. I'd rather have someone deliver it to me and, maybe, even hook it up. No question about it working. I wouldn't have to worry about the costs of shipping it back, if needed and not necessarily have a fairly expensive unit that's already been repaired. This is a lot like the complaint a few days ago about the Sony camera purchased off of eBay. To the consumer's astonishment, it wasn't under any form of warranty.

In a proverbial nutshell, this all is about risk versus cost. I'd rather pay a little more and lesson the risk.

Yep, it is right there in their policy on tvs:
"If initially defective they must be serviced by an Authorized Service Technician."

I always read the Terms before buying online. I wouldn't buy from this retailer because of this policy, but I would buy Samsung. Sorry this didn't work out better. Good luck.
