Home Depot Complaint - Carpet installation costs so ridiculous I thought they were joking!
I ordered a carpet for a bedroom 15 by 12 for my mom. She lives in an elevator building on the 5th floor. I also ordered that the old base board be removed and new one installed. No padding was ordered.
Carpet measurment person came promptly, was very polite and submitted the measurements to Home Depot. The problems started when I got the call informing me of the results of the measurements and the final total costs to install the carpet and vinyl baseboard. First room is 15x12 carpet ran 253.00 with the baseboard.. no problem.
Labor is the problem. To remove te old vinyl baseboard cost is $52 (I did it myself and peeled it off in 5 minute). The labor cost to put a new vinyl baseboard self adhesive (not including the cost of said basebard) $82. Get this charge! To bring the carpet up from the truck, walk 20 feet straight to an elevator which takes you to 5th floor, out the elevator and walk 2 apartments down the hall.. a stupid $99! What more they had the nerve to call this a "hard access fee"! Really? Hard access is dragging the carpet up a winding stairwell 5 stories. Short of carrying it for them..how much easier could delivering the carpet be?!
Then add the $139 to install the carpet. Total cost labor $279! More than the carpet.
When given the quote over the phone... I laughed so hard I thought I would pee on myself! What a joke! Same night went to Home Depot and cancelled the carpet. Home Depot fees are as stupid as the airlines.
Ended up going to LUNA carpet. Carpet, padding and installation $450..free delivery, no "hard access fees"..or any other stupid fees.
