On July 26,2001 I met with JK Harris's associate Mr. Acie Hylton at there Rolling Meadows
Location. I specifically asked Mr. Hylton if his corporation handled Illinois State Sales Tax cases.
Mr. Hylton assured me they did. I explained to Mr. Hylton that I was scheduled for a hearing with the State of Illinois Revenue Department. The date of the hearing was August 07,2001 at 10:00A.M. Mr. Hylton told me someone would be in touch with me before my hearing and I didn't need to attend the hearing. Mr. Hylton explained his company would need $500.00 to start the research on my case before they could go into court and ask for abatement of the tax owed. So I wrote Mr. Hylton a check for $500.00 made out to JK Harris & company.
For the next two weeks I called Mr. Hylton and left messages and e mailed him several times to find out why no one had contacted me and to tell him the date of the hearing was changed from August 07,2001 to August 14,2001 at 10:00A.M. Finally on August 10,2001 I received a call from Mr. Phil Bowser another JK Harris associate. Mr. Bowser had received a call from Mr. Hylton advising him to call me and to take the case. Mr. Phil Bowser never received any paperwork from JK Harris & Company. So again I explained everything to Mr. Bowser agreeing to fax him the paperwork on Friday August 10,2001. On Friday Mr. Bowser called and gave me the fax number at his location so I could fax him the paperwork. I did so. Two hours later after Mr. Bowser received the fax he called and alerted me that JK Harris & Company clearly does not handle any type of Illinois State Sales Tax case. Mr. Bowser did apologize and suggested I try to find a local attorney to represent me at the hearing. Mr. Bowser also stated that being as JK Harris & Company clearly does not handle Illinois State Sales Tax cases that my $500.00 would be refunded in full. Mr. Bowser also agreed that no research of any kind was done on this case.
I did go to the hearing with no representation and entered my best offer agreement. I do not understand why JK Harris & Company is denying my refund of $500.00. They do not handle Illinois State Sales Tax Cases. I would never have given them any money if they would have told me in the beginning that they don't handle this type of a case. Now they refuse to talk to me as everything is to be sent in writing to their problem resolution office. I did this and they are still refusing to refund my money. Why would they want to do research on a case they clearly don't handle. I really don't understand this kind of behavior.
Thank You,
Sincerely,

Georgian Davis

My husband and I used JK Harris to file an offer in compromise with the IRS (finally settled 2002). My complaint is in regards to their customer service. You never get the same person on the phone, and God forbid if you should actually think you are important enough to actually speak to your account representative. You always get a "go between" whom you must tell your questions to and then YOU have to call them back 2 days later for the answers. Talk about crappy customer service !!! I paid them well over $2,000.00 to file a simple offer in compromise and I never even got to speak to the person who handled my case, dispite numerous calls and requests that she call ME ! I ended up having to contact the IRS and work this thing out myself. I would not recommend them to ANYONE ! Save your money and handle your problems yourself. Trust me, if you hire these guys you'll be own your own anyway.
