Dear Mr. Tappan,
On December 15, 2008, I had you install a Trane XL14C gas package unit at my home.
On December 18, 2008, I paid a total of $5250 for the unit and installation. In our initial discussion about the unit we talked of the residential area and the unit being converted to natural gas when it was available in the area. You indicated that the unit had the capacity to accommodate this.
In July and August of 2011 I spoke with you and you informed me that you were unable to attend to the conversion of the Trane unit to natural gas. In these discussions I asked about the conversion parts for the unit that you had upon installation in 2008. You indicated that you may have used my parts on another job and did not leave them in my possession.
After speaking with a distributor for Trane he confirmed that the conversion parts came with the unit and the party that installed the unit should have left these parts with me. These parts were unavailable with the distributor when I sought to get them for my conversion in July.
On August 26, 2011, I had the Trane unit converted to natural gas. I had to pay an extreme amount more for this conversion because I did not have the appropriate parts that should have been in my possession at installation. Due to not having the appropriate parts, having the discussion about the conversion at initial consultation about converting to natural gas, negligence on your part for not leaving the appropriate materials with me knowing that this conversion was something anticipated and having to seek someone who would be able to assist in finding a way to convert my unit I would like reimbursement of $300 to offset a portion of the cost I had to expend in this endeavor.
I appreciate your anticipated assistance in this matter. I look forward to hearing from you within 7 business days from the date of this letter.
