Dish Network Complaint - Ruining Credit Report on a fraud action against others.
CALIFORNIA -- We're a young couple trying to buy our first home. In the process, we found our credit rating had been lowered because we "owed" Dish Network approximately $1000. We knew that wasn't the case, so we called Dish Network. They told us where the network was installed, which was in a small town not far from us. We found out that it is the address of a relative who has pulled this kind of thing on others in the family. We spoke with the fraud dept. at Dish. We asked for any info they had regarding copies of contracts, who signed for the equipment at installation, etc. After talking with a dozen people, we finally got a "supervisor" who responded "we only release that information to the Police Dept."
Basically, this is the problem. Dish says we "owe" them. They cannot provide any written information to that effect, and we know we don't. They won't provide any information to us to clear this up, AND they won't issue a letter or any document saying this isn't our doing. We are quite willing to help in the prosecution of this individual, and told Dish this also.
They are talking at least 60 days to resolve an issue that could be done very quickly with their cooperation. We are likely not going to get our house because of this issue.
Oh yes, when asked...Dish representative says they take info over the phone. They don't verify anything as to IF this is who they say it is, nor do they verify at installation. This seems to be negligence in their part. But we're the ones paying the price.
