Food Lion Complaint - Thanksgiven Turkeys - Poetry

Poetry - Complaint
Review by amo32joe58 on 2011-10-25
NORTH CAROLINA -- THIS IS THE FIRST YEAR YOUR NOT GIVING AWAY TURKEYS. I SHOP AT YOUR STORE EVERY WEEK & ALWAYS SPEND OVER $ 100-. YOU OUGHT TO BE ASHAME OF YOURSELFS BECAUSE A SMALL CHAIN LIKE ENGLES GIVES TURKEYS AWAY & YOUR A MUCH BIGGER CHAIN. I GUESS I WILL DO MY SHOPPING IN ENGELS FROM NOW ON.

Turkey's are fairly inexpensive and go on sale pretty cheap around Thanksgiving. Food Lion is much bigger than Ingles and I'd compare prices before jumping ship over a free $15 item.

i agree. getting the free turkey for shopping there was a great idea. too bad they have discontinued it.

very helpful review!

If you really want a free turkey, find out if any of your local law enforcement agency's will be conducting DUI checkpoints around this year. My local department holds a DUI checkpoint the weekend before thanksgiving and they hand out free turkeys to sober drivers that go through the checkpoint. .

It seems a bit cruel to vilify Food Lion for not giving away something out of the goodness of their hearts.

Maybe the economy is to blame. While it may be a "great idea" to give away turkeys, is there a state regulation that dictates it is a requirement?

I've never shopped anywhere that gave away turkeys at Christmas. I think a compliment to Engles sounds more fair to both than a complaint about Food Lion not giving away free stuff.

I agree with trmn8r. Just because someone has given you something free in the past does not obligate them to continue through thick and thin. All grocery stores are struggling financially right now. The store I shop at used to offer rewards, spend x and get a gift card. They discontinued it, and while it was disappointing, it's understandable and I still shop there.

Shop Rite still has the free turkey promotion if you spend $300 over the course of six weeks. They've been doing it for as long as I can remember, but it wouldn't surprise me if they finally called it quits. It would never stop me from shopping there. It's my favorite store, and I want them to do whatever it takes to stay in business.

This almost reminded me of companies always giving a bonus near Christmas. The first year that the company lessened the amount of the bonus, or kept it the same as the prior year, there was grumbling like you've never heard before. Nowhere when you were employed was it mentioned you'd get an extra check with taxes already paid on your behalf. You might not be involved in the accounting aspect of the company but do you not realize business is down? It's a shame once given it's expected from now on.
