Cannery Casino Resorts Complaint - Victory's Cafe - Ridiculous charge

Review by angiedee0051 on 2011-10-26
LAS VEGAS, NEVADA -- My husband and I have eaten at the Cannery Casino's cafe "Victory's" on many many occasions. The portion sizes are amazing and the food for the most part is quite good.

I'm certain they do a well enough business that it is not necessary to charge a $3 fee for ordering food to go. Let me clarify we ate in but order another meal to go for our daughter at home. So they still made money on our drinks and the waitress earned her tip however I feel it is riduculous to charge dining in customers for ordering something to go. I am actually saving you from dirtying a plate then asking you to bring out a styrofoam box. Less dishes to wash if you put the food directly in the box...DUH!

We called the manager over to dispute the charge. She had the audacity to argue that that was the procedure and the charge will stand. If a customer calls for a manager and their problem is only $3 a good manager would just remove it. I had to threaten to cancel the to go order before she caved?!?!?

Word of advice to anyone eating at Victory's (because the other restaurants at the casino do not have this bogus policy in place) order your to go food as if you are eating it there then ask for a box.

This is an interesting review.

Did you ask why they charge $3 for to go orders? I tend to agree with you that if a customer is already partaking in sit down dining, that a to go order shouldn't have the fee tacked on, but I disagree with your last statement that customers should try to scam the restaurant.

I don't know about deliberately attempting to get around the charge but I once ordered lunch at a busy restaurant and was assured my meal would be out shortly. Obviously their idea of shortly and mine differed. I had a scheduled meeting I couldn't cancel/postpone at the last minute. I was with a group of friends but after a while told the waiter to bring my meal in a to-go box. I would have been sore if I was charged extra for not dining in which was my intent initially.

Styrofoam costs money, as do plastic utensils that probably go along for the ride. Also no one is making a tip off of your take out. So I understand the compensation, though you really should have gotten a break for already eating there. Glad you got to keep your 3 bucks and everyone enjoyed their meal.

In the case I mentioned NutterButter I was served a drink while waiting for my meal. I left a generous tip for the server and didn't fault him for an obvious problem in the kitchen.

I was wondering if the $3 charge might be due to lack of tipping on to go orders. Why some don't tip on to go orders is a mystery to me. Someone still prepared the meal, boxed it up and handed it over. Tips are typically shared between servers, cooks and dishwashing staff.
