Quiznos Complaint - Children running the ship

Complaint
Review by sales72 on 2011-10-28
DAYTONA BEACH, FLORIDA -- My name is Joseph Daley, VP of Palm Gaming International in Daytona Beach Florida. I wanted to take a moment to tell you how disappointed I am with Quisnos- specifically with the individual named Kevin who ownes several Quisnos in the Daytona Beach Area.

A young man I know was recently fired after working for Kevin for well over a year- and the manager who fired this young man did it solely out of vengeance and made it quite clear that she would fire this young man at the first opportunity because he refused to come in to work one weekend when he was off.

The young men and women who work for your franchises under Kevin’s control are clearly made to jump through hoops- they are called in repeatedly when they are scheduled to be off- paid barely the minimum wage- and in general are treated like dirt.

Repeated bounced payroll checks, to the extent whereby Walmart refuses to cash local Quisnos payroll checks indicates to me how poorly this owner represents this chain.

As a business owner with employees- I value my employees- and have been fortunate that all of my staff has remained with me for many years, eliminating the revolving door policy or hiring- rehiring-training- etc. I pay my employees well- and it has proven to be successful for me.

The Quisnos environment I have seen where this young man worked is totally opposite-
workers will leave for another job paying 10 cents more an hour. A constant revolving door or workers cannot be beneficial and cost effective over time.

While it is not my place to tell someone how to run their business- I am in a position to do everything I can legally to steer customers away from this individual’s Quisnos stores.

He clearly doesn’t deserve my business-and the patronage of any of my employees, friends or family.

Sincerely,

Joseph Daley, VP
Palm Gaming International

Perhaps you can offer this young man a position in your company?

Probably won't matter anyway; Quiznos is headed for bankruptcy from what I read, and if this happens, it will probably be the end of the chain.

I believe it, Leet. Anyone can start a small business, they don't have to know how to press a "check spelling" button. This guy is just trying to use his VP power to look out for his kid, little brother or nephew by coming out against the company without a first hand account or hearing the other side. Let him do his VP strut. I'm totally with MD here. Give the kid a job.

When an employee is called in to work, it's more likely due to someone else not coming in. As others have said, a 10 cent pay increase may seem really small to you, but to someone making close to min. wage, every little bit helps. Many places who have younger people (high school and college aged) working for them have a lot of turnover.

Completely different industries, bub.
I'd also be willing to wager that Kevin doesn't have much say in what he pays his employees.

Also are you the VP of the company, or VP of Overseas Operations?

If you really are who you say you are, then you should know that this post is not a good idea. If you want to do something to help these people give them jobs and pay them very highly for those jobs. Most high powered executive do not come onto M3C and try to berate specific people and businesses. Most high powered executives don't have time for that. Also, it is QuiZnos not Quisnos that you are complaining about.

Working retail often involves working when you didn't plan to, but there is no way to know all the details and this is an issue between the unnamed person who was let go from the company and his boss and HR.

It seems a bit peculiar that you are interjecting yourself into this matter, especially since you are a business owner yourself.

This 'young man' being fired and how Kevin treats his employees affects you exactly how? Does it change the quality of your poker chips? I agree with the others who say MYOB and butt out. It's really none of your concern unless you see actual physical abuse and in that case it would be a police matter. You're hearing only one side of the story.

Sound more like a plug for his business, what is the reason to give so much info about your business when you aren't even the person involved in the issue posted?

Well, being that you have an estimated 1-4 employees, one being you and two being your relatives, I can understand why you can afford to pay them well and why they've been with you for many years.

Did you bother to mention that you are the step father of the terminated employee?
