Chi-Chi's, Inc. Complaint - Chi Chi's - Corn Tortillas - Corn tortillas

Complaint
Review by NutterButter on 2011-10-28
My first review, yay!

So I bought these Chi Chi's corn tortillas at my favorite store ever, Publix, where they all know me because I am forgetful and am often there twice or thrice in one day.

My first attempt at using these was for taco night. Tried popping them in the oven, as per directions. They frisbee'd. Tried nuking them. Ditto. Solid as a rock. I gave up and ate hard shells that night.

Today I decided I was in the mood for enchiladas, and was gonna give these another try since I had a few left. As soon as I tried to wrap my pretty little chicken and multi cheese and chile concoctions, these suckers fell apart on me. I mean disintegrated.

I tried to patch them back together with spit (actually it was chicken broth) but there was no salvaging. I am not sure what purpose these were designed for, since they seem to just malfunction with the options I have given them.

So needless to say I'm a little bummed. I had to fall back on the El Paso soft taco shells no one in my house ever eats to get my lunch today.

In conclusion (finally,) I do not recommend this product.
Have a good day and take heed of my warning.

Do you think it may have been a bad batch? I love corn tortillas and if this happened to me I would be very disappointed.

Not a fan of corn tortillas, flour all the way.

All of the store bought tortilla's I've ever used need to be warmed before making a taco or enchilada out of them. Did you warm the tortillas up before attempting to roll the enchiladas? You can soften them by heating them on a griddle or fry pan but for enchiladas, I prefer to heat a small pan with oil and lightly fry each tortilla until soft, which I learned from my Mexican mother-in-law.

I recommend mission tortillas, they are very good.

Heating them up usually works. I like to buy tortillas from some of the Mexican grocery stores around here. They taste fresher

JlS, could be, but it's like going back to a stylist that gave you a bad haircut. I am a little more concerned with my hair than tortillas, though!

Sam & Little, I did give them a quick skillet heating before I tried to roll them. They were just too fragile to hold together even with baby handling. I am stuck with 2 brands of tortillas unless I drive for an hours. Maybe it's time to learn to make my own!

Good review! We use Old El Paso hard and soft taco kit, which works well since my wife likes tacos and my 'mexican pies' are so covered in hot sauce and junk it wouldn't matter what the tortillas are.
