Spitzer Ford Complaint - Warranty Coverage - 2009 Ranger

Review by BRUTUSBULLBOG854 on 2011-10-30
CUYAHOGA FLLS, OHIO -- The throdel stuck wide open. I had it towed to spitzer they said a mouse chewed on the no 4 spark plug wire causing it to backfire shattering the ceramic throdlebody valve leaving the throdle wide open. Ihave the wire there miner nibbles on the plug boot but not even close to the insulation. Spitzer said because of this it was not warranty covered. I showed the parts to other mechanics including 2 ford they all said that wire did not cause the problem. 1 Ford mechanic said the problem is the mechanic only gets paid about half if it is warranty work.

It is an interesting and possibly plausible explanation, but I'd have to do research on how a ceramic throttle body would shatter due to leakage of the spark plug wire.

I do know that rodent damage would result in no warranty coverage.

Were you given an alternate explanation for why the throttle body shattered by these 2nd,etc opinion mechanics?

I guess it is possible that a discharge through or near the throttle body could ignite gasoline, causing a small explosion. How else would the throttle body "shatter"?

How did they know it was a mouse and not a squirrel or possibly a chipmunk?

I am not a mechanic, but I know enough about cars to call total BS on their explanation.
