Southern California Edison Complaint - Service Disruption - Lights

Review by ddjwj6862 on 2011-11-04
HAWTHORNE, CALIFORNIA -- My light bill were due to be paid on October 28,however I was out of town on that date. On October 30 th I made a payment on line to Edison for 125.00 dollars. On 10-01 11 at 9:07 AM my services were disconnected. I called the company and spoke with Ryan at 9:20 AM and informed him of the disruption. His imply was I see that your payment has been posted, and that we will have your services restored as soon as possible, but to do so requires a reconnection fee of 214.00 dollars. I ask him why my services were disrupted if my payment had been posted, he didn't give me any clear reason protect the company.

At 12:25 PM I called and spoke with a supervisor. I asked her what time my payment were posted. She informed me that the payment were posted at 10:05AM I informed her that I had spoke with Ryan at 9:20 AM and that the told me at the time that I spoke with, the payment had been posted. Their time lines does not coincide with each other. My opinion is we as consumers are getting rip off. I think that they knew that my payment had reached there office in time for my services to not be disrupted but they were determine to follow through because most people don't complain.

Was your bill due on the 28th or was it already past due and your cut-off was scheduled for the 28th? If your bill was simply due on the 28th then I would hope Edison would send a past due notice before cutting you off like that. I would ask Edison if part of the $214 reconnection fee is a deposit.

The power company does not cut your power off for being late two days. I don't think they can legally even do that. I'm thinking that the 28th was your final shutoff notice. If you are going to be out of town when your bill is due you need to pay it before you leave.
