Quality Inns, Suites & Hotels Complaint - Pass By and Choose Another - Rude Owners/Staff

Rude Owners/Staff - Complaint
Review by Slimjim on 2011-11-08
EMPORIA, VIRGINIA -- Got in late for an overnight on business trip a couple weeks ago. Lady at desk extremely rude and difficult to understand. Guy behind her never steps in to help. Both may be the owners as both were there again the next morning for check out, except she was wearing a different shirt. They served a cheesy Continental breakfast, and then (same lady) puts away the limited spread before breakfast time was even done. Like heaven forbid you may want something too close to the time they want to clean up.

Place was a bit run down too. Price is nothing special and there are at least 5 other travel hotel chains within walking distance.

These big hotel holding companies like Choice Hotels enforce absolutely no quality standards on thier brands. That's why I stick with Marriott properties or in a pinch Hilton.

Good review Slim.

Last Choice property we stayed at was in Cedar City Utah at the Comfort Suites. The room and the entire place smelled like dog piss. I was tired and had to drive all the way to L.A. the next day so we stayed. Never again.

Good info and review.

You never know about these chain places. It seems to always be about particular locations. At one time one lost his franchise, no matter the cost, if certain standards weren't followed. It's almost a guessing game now for the customer.

The assumption that they were the owners is probably fairly accurate. The norm is that they actually live in a section directly behind the reception area. Which also explains why you quite often smell the aroma of their native cooking lingering in the lobby.

I suppose this also cuts back on manpower to run the front desk, maintenance, etc...but in return they are usually suffering from sleep deprivation, and accounts for their cheery disposition.

The one exception is at a Choice hotel I stayed at in Santa Fe, NM. I believe it was the Comfort Inn? It is located on Cerrillos Rd, and was one of the nicest mid price range hotels I have ever stayed in. Although it too was staffed by the owners 24/7, they were polite, had a fully stocked breakfast bar, and the entire motel looked and smelled immaculate.

Good review Slimjim!
