North American Bancard Complaint - Big Scam - Merchant Services

Merchant Services - Complaint
Review by Carol10 on 2011-11-08
I thought I was done with horrible company over a year ago. It was a nightmare to say the least but thought I had everything resolved last year about this time. However, today I received a letter from a collection company stating I owed North American Bancard $1,849.71! I was shocked to say the least. Now I must spend time to fight the charges from a collection company that can affect my business on a credit level. I have my stack of correspondence and notes from this nightmare but like everyone on here says, they lie and do what they want. Every other merchant that every calls me offering services will suffer for the bad service from North American Bancard. I returned the equipment that they are now trying to charge me for as well as receiving word from agent that any termination fees would be waived since the problems was theirs!
Company Response:
NAB would love to assist in getting this handled. Majority of complaints are responded to and offered help, however most complainants are not receptive, therefore the issue never gets resolved. We are unable to determine your account by any information in your post. Have you tried to call in to our Customer Service department? If not, please feel free to contact us as soon as possible. They'll be able to get you to a senior agent. Or feel free to contact me via email with your merchant number. My email is rpaull@nabancard.com. Hope to hear from you soon so that we can get this resolved. Thank you for your time, Rebecca Paull Research Manager

Calm Down Dude! This is very easy to resolve. The next time the collection company calls, you need to be cordial with them, they are not the bad guys here (yet). Simply tell them that you need PROOF of the debt in WRITING before you will have any further conversations with them. They are required, by law, to send this to you. Once you get the documentation, you can evaluate the validity of the debt. If you do in fact owe, there is a good chance you can negotiate the amount with the collection agency. If the debt is proven to be bogus, you simply need to provide documentation that supports this. Either way, you'll get this resolved with minimal frustration hopefully.

Actually MD, whether it's easy to resolve or not still remains to be seen. North American Bankcard has complaints all over this site. The perception is they create problems for people, so my guess is more like they will be as obstructive as possible. They already are trying to collect a debt which was long taken care of with them per the author's viewpoint.

If I am correct, and I think I am, the debt was sold to the collection agency and at this point NAB is no longer part of the equation until the OP has proper documentation from the collection agency. Some collection agency prey on fear, intimidation, and general lack of knowledge. Once you demonstrate that you understand the law, they typically want to get your case solved and moved onto someone else that is not as well informed. I highly recommend reading this: http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/credit/cre27.pdf

Many of these 2nd and 3rd tier processors make a great deal of money from screwing over their own clients. Bogus fees etc... Then if you fight with them and don't roll over they put you on a merchant black list so you can never get another merchant account.

The entire industry needs some form of regulations. But they have some very powerfull Lobby Dogs in DC, so that will not happen. Pick the best one you can and just hope you don't get jerked around too bad.

I think that's the x-factor, MD. Not always is a debt sold to the collector, but at times just assigned to them to collect on a percentage. If that's the case here, NAB still will call the shots.
