OfficeMax Complaint - Ripped Off - Lap Top Battery

Lap Top Battery - Complaint
Review by lash32 on 2011-11-14
STEUBENVILLE, OHIO -- We bought an Acer laptop in August of 2010.OfficeMax said if we bought an 2 year extended Warranty for $99.99 that we could get a new battery for free. They suggested we wait a year or so to get it. I tried today 11-14-11 to get a new battery. No one at the store knows nothing about it. Said to call Acer. I did They said everythings covered but the battery which I new thats why we took the deal. There is nothing on the slip so we got screwed.

Who said you would get a new battery for free? Unless you got it in writing then you were not ripped off.

SuzeB hit the nail on the head. When you are offered a contract and there is a verbal part of the offer; simply say " Please show me where that is in the contract "

I agree with both of the previous posters. Nothing in writing = non-existent. I wouldn't give up on pursuing this though. Is the name of the person who sold you this "deal" on your receipt? Or do you remember them? Try contacting OfficeMax corporate and explaining your situation. You'll likely not get anything out of it other than keeping someone else from getting duped, but you'll get karma points.

Yeah, if it isn't in writing it is pretty much useless. I always examine offers carefully so that I understand the terms and meet deadlines. An offer like this should have been in print.

Good reminder to ALWAYS get all promises in writing, to protect yourself later on, and to avoid issues such as this.

A good extended program will place all terms in writing that you can have and study. Things that are considered consumables, like batteries, generally are not covered.

You listened to the "salesperson." That is the crux of the problem. No one has this clause. Period. What you were ACTUALLY sold was: if the battery is performing at less that a 50% charge in the first 2 years, the service plan covers it. You would have to make the claim and ship the old out. The store has ZERO to do with it. With regular use, batteries usually exhibit this loss, uh, between years 2&4. Next time, just say "No." BTW, you had a 1 year warranty and paid for damage insurance for the first 2 years.

I used to work for OfficeMax, and we did offer a few deals like this in the past, especially around Back-to-School time. You're not imagining that this deal existed. I would recommend calling Corporate office, or the MaxAssurance number (you can get it from a brochure at the store if you're missing it) and explaining to them the procedure. For future reference: OfficeMax stores don't fulfill these types of plans, a third-party company called N.E.W. does. You would have to take the claim through them.

I work for officemax currently. The battery was a limited offer. What it sounds like is the cashier you were working with did not scan the proper sku when ringing you out. Which would have enabled you to receive your battery replacement. :(
