Disappointing - Staff Is Not Trained

HIGHLANDS RANCH, COLORADO -- We had frequented Mimi's at this location since they opened some years ago. But in the future we won't knock ourselves out to return. Tonight, it took a long time to get a glass of wine from the bar. When bar person finally brought it after looking around, obviously not knowing what table it was for. I said "Thank you, I was about to come & visit you" - there was no apology for the delay. Nothing.

Waitress had not checked on this. She didn't remove empty soup dishes for the entire meal. We had to ask for a bread basket. A large paper towel laid on the floor outside the restrooms near the door to the kitchen throughout our meal. Staff walked right past, and nobody ever picked it up. The kitchen didn't time food delivery well. We were still eating our soup and dinner had to sit on the table getting cold. They made a ring of gravy around the perimeter of my plate, and while it looked nice, it was the only gravy served, so of course it got cold quickly.

A manager came by once and asked how things were and didn't stop or portray that she really wanted to know the answer. Dinner companion's green beans were not cooked enough so he could eat them. When we sat down, we asked for a brochure with desserts described. Waitress said that the day before (Easter) they had sold all their desserts. (All day today to fix more?)

On the way out we saw a dessert listed on the blackboard - a muffin split in half with ice cream, whipped cream, chocolate sauce. She missed a chance to sell us a dessert. Never asked if I would like a 2nd glass of wine. Both were lost opportunities to upsell us to a bigger ticket. The meal was capped off with her standing there while we were trying to discuss how much tip we wanted to leave. Finally had to say: "Sorry, we aren't ready yet." Most of these problems could be solved if management would train their people!

LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY -- It was a small celebration with my family. We got seated. NOT A SOUL checked on us for about 15 minutes. Then, a random waitress asked if we had been helped yet. We said no, so she volunteered to take our order and said she would check on the waitress who is supposed to serve us. Drinks came. Then, a manager came out, said part of our order was NOT available, so I changed the item to a different one. ALSO, the bread was not available - they ran out! HOWEVER, the table next to us received a "replacement option" - the croissants, while we asked OUR waitress to do the same for us, she said it would cost .99CENTS.

A few minutes later, a table behind us received bread! The waitress said that she had a large party she was working and that she was sorry for a slow service. She also insisted that "they were lying" that the bread was not available. When our food arrived, a few items were missing - sides. It took a few minutes for the waitress to be reminded to bring them to us. When the check arrived, it was incorrect as well... What a bad experience!!! There are plenty of other choices of where to dine out... We will think hard before patronizing this establishment again!

Compliment of Your Staff person....Juan ** Waiter

ALBUQUERQUE, NEW MEXICO -- I am a customer who recognizes someone when they are caring individual that has gone beyond what was expected of them. I was seated at a table with my husband when this couple who were very elderly came in. The woman was in a wheelchair and the husband was not strong enough to help her into the booth properly. Your waiter rushed to her aid and with such dignity helped her and gave her a pillow that she needed to lean her forward.

He not only saved her dignity but assured her husband that he was there for the both of them. No amount of a tip could make up for this young waiter's grace and kindness. This young man deserves some acknowledgement of his kindness and a little extra in his paycheck as a reward. Again, his name is Juan ** at the Mimi's near Pan American Freeway in Albuquerque, NM. Also he was our waiter and the pork chop was great...best I had in 5 years.

Bad Management

MONTGOMERY, ALABAMA -- My husband and I went out for a nice dinner to Mimi's, so we thought. After first being seated, I asked a manager about using a coupon for the 50% off and that I did not have my coupon. He asked if I could print it from my phone and I stated that I could. My husband ordered the seafood combo-sub sweet potatoes and a smoothie and I ordered a walnut salad-add chicken and an Arnold Palmer.

I asked the waitress over and over again to please make sure that there was no bacon on my salad, and she said that she would. Everything was fine until my husband received his strawberry smoothie with no garnishment and he asked the waitress about it and she stated that sometimes it does not come with it and that was the end of that.

I was so very disappointed when afterwards. I received my salad with bacon bits and did not know until I was eating it. I stopped eating bacon over 20 years ago and it repulses me to have it on my food, and that is why I repeatedly asked that it not be put in my salad!! I informed the waitress and she said that she understood and that she asked that it not be put in my salad and the cook that prepared it could not understand English well!! She stated that she stopped eating bacon herself over 6 years ago and that she would feel the same way! I lost my appetite, even though I was very hungry and asked that if they prepare another one that they fix it to go.

When I received my ticket, to my surprise, the salad was still being charged, no courtesy, and no consideration at all! The Waitress stated that she had already spoken with the Manager about the situation! I was very disappointed partly because that we dine there often. In the last month we spent over $600.00 at Mimi's, and from time to time, we also bring groups of our business partners there to eat as well.

To top our night off, after viewing my bill, I asked to speak with a manager and I spoke with the (Assistant Manager), which is not a people person, no customer service skills at all! I informed her of what happened and she asked did they replace the salad and she stated that the price of the salad would not be taken off and that if I did not receive the salad, then it would be taken off! The waitress had already asked another manager to assist in re-making the salad that I could not enjoy eating with my husband, so the salad had been bagged and brought to our table prior.

I do not think that I should have paid for something that was as disappointing as that and I feel that we were so very inconvenienced!! She politely took the salad away only to dispose of it!! I have a real problem with that and I am sure anyone else would have also!! I do not feel that I need to pay for something that I begged not to happen in the beginning because of an incompetent cook in the kitchen at Mimi's! I am not responsible for a cook that could not understand English. Someone should have made sure that he understood in some way, either by writing or by speaking in Spanish!

We also experienced the 2 times prior to this visit, when we spent over $350.00, and our ticket were incorrectly charged too much when using a coupon. We have eaten at many restaurants and have never had this type of treatment, from a manager! Signed: Disappointed!! :(

SANTEE, CALIFORNIA -- Ordered 6 muffin, meatloaf dinner, turkey dressing dinner. Total 53.00. Muffins were stale. Turkey dinner was not oven-roasted, but sliced lunch meat. Meatloaf was burnt - I mean burnt. Never again! What has happened to this place? Delivery was great and quick but cold.

FAIRFIELD, CALIFORNIA -- On May 26, 2018 at 3:00 PM the Mimi's Restaurant in Fairfield, CA was so unprepared for business they should have just closed for the day. The restaurant was well staffed with servers but unorganized, or, uncaring. Despite being not busy, we had to wait for seating for 2. We had to ask for silverware after being served. After starting four times the muffin was to go, it was delivered on a plate. LONG LONG WAITS FOR SERVICE.

GLENDALE, ARIZONA -- :( The service was fast. We ordered (2) meals. The Bouillabaisse seafood soup and the Bavette Steak with brussel sprouts. The french onion soup was excellent. The Bouillabaisse soup was ok. It would have been nice to see some seafood in it for it was a few. The Bavette Steak was awful. There were (5) strips of tough meat and the sprouts were burned; maybe they were trying cajun. Don't know, but it wasn't worth $17.50. :(

Server Spent His Time Trying to P/U My Wife

OCEANSIDE, CALIFORNIA -- I had one of the most vile experiences I have ever had at any restaurant. While visiting Mimi's Cafe (one of our favorite restaurants in the last 29 years) we had a waiter, **. We selected a booth that was private from most of the customers so that my wife would not be harassed by ogling men looking for a pickup.

Our server, however, did the following: Made special care to give us free muffins (fine, we wondered why). He pretended to give good service. And he brought a young Hispanic man who served refills with the greasy humbleness of Uriah Heap from Great Expectations (Dickens novel). Nothing was too much, extra big lemons, an extra, extra amount of attention was given. Meanwhile, he too like **, wore the smile of a Cheshire cat who was gazing hungrily at my wife.

THEN: everything changed. His "utilitarian ethics" (that's what they call it when someone is guided in life by what serves or rewards them best) kicked in. Once the birthday card was opened at the table, all service ceased. The waiter couldn't be found. Every ice tea refill we needed, I had to get up and find the waiter. Problem: Obviously ** and his greasily smiling young waiter friend did not receive the same opportunity - the woman was not available, she was married and therefore this table was not worth the continued effort. So neither he nor his greasily smiling (insincere) waiter friend were available.

What I learned is that ** did not only ruin our birthday celebration and cast an ugly pall over the special time; he was using company funds, your muffins, to make a hit on a woman while her husband was paying for the meal. I called and spoke to the manager, but he seemed to lack a real understanding of why we were so angry. His words were mostly spot on, but his heart was not in it. He closed by asking if there was anything else we wanted and I replied "no", thinking that at minimum he would insist on giving a meal coupon to replace the damaged memory of what was supposed to be a special event. This seemed so basic of a courtesy.

It has been nearly three months now and we have not returned to eat at any of your restaurants. It's sad, the end of a long series of good memories over many years, all covered over by the selfish, self-serving, open and unchecked lust of two young men who look at their positions of serving others as open season to try to connect with women - even while they are carefully escorted by other men. We found this experience to be vile and degrading. I know you folks can do better.

Complaint against Mimi's Upland
By -

UPLAND, CALIFORNIA -- We have been enjoying Mimi's Cafe for years. My husband and I frequent Mimi's in Rancho Cucamonga and Upland quite often. This complaint is to Upland the week of November 1st. We experienced what we thought was a very inexperienced waitress. Service was extremely slow and she didn't refill water/coffee/check on us, etc. Food was extremely slow in coming out but since we were in no hurry we were patient. As we left we talked with the manager and explained the situation, trying to be understanding but felt he needed to be aware of the problem especially since this seemed to be a one-time event.

A week later we arrived with ten people for a birthday celebration at the Upland location. We had a different waitress. Her smile was nice, but service was minimal and she didn't seem to be aware of our needs or pay any attention to them. We mentioned to the manager we hadn't received our drinks and he said, "she'll be coming soon" but didn't apologize. Some of our food arrived one or two at a time approximately 45 min to 1 hour later. The last food that came was over 20 minutes after the last plate was served. We informed our waitress of our birthday celebrant, she told me to remind her if she forgot.

After another 1/2 hour she brought a dessert with a pink unlit candle then apologizing for not realizing it was a gentleman but should have served it with a blue one. She did not offer to light the candle and disappeared again. As we left we spoke with the manager who was the same man we had spoken with the week before about our situation. He did not seem overly concerned treating the situation rather lightly.

We owned and operated a family restaurant in Upland for seven years. We know the difficulties one faces as manager however the attitude of the waitress and the manager were unacceptable to us. We will not go to the Upland Mimi's again until we hear of significant changes.

Never Again!!!
By -

The last two times I've been here, something has gone wrong. Visit 1: I ordered some buttermilk pancakes. After a forty-five minute wait, they arrived. But I was shocked to see that the middles of them were basically raw batter--the pancakes were seriously undercooked!!! Management did give us our meal free plus a free appetizer on our next visit, so I just let it go as a one-time problem. Well, it wasn't. Last night, I went back there with both my parents and an aunt. This time we had more of a service problem. My dad ordered a spring mix salad, but he is allergic to spring greens. So, he requested that those be replaced with iceberg lettuce or some other lettuce.

The waiter said no problem. My mom ordered the Turkey Ciabatta sandwich, but she requested that the sandwich have no tomato. The waiter again said no problem. When my dad's salad came, it had spring greens in it!! MY DAD HAD SPECIFICALLY ASKED FOR NO SPRING GREENS!! Well, the waiter took that salad back, and the new one did have lettuce instead of spring greens. My mom's sandwich arrived, but guess what? They ignored her request for no tomato! Luckily for the waiter, my mom is a nice person about these things. She simply took off the tomato rather than send the sandwich back. My meal was totally perfect.

Dessert was another fiasco. My aunt had originally ordered the triple chocolate brownie, but she suggested that I eat her dessert because that way I could get dessert for free, and anyway she didn't really want dessert. Well, my favorite dessert there is the bread pudding, so my aunt agreed to change her order. So, we all order different desserts, and she does ask to change to a bread pudding. Well, we waited a total of about twenty minutes, and had to ask our server three times, but our desserts finally arrived. Well, the bread pudding was not there, but what was brought to the table was A TRIPPLE CHOCOLATE BROWNIE!!

At this point I was mad, but I managed to stay polite. I said, "Could you please replace this with the bread pudding? I think we asked to change our order." We did get our bread pudding, but I've decided to never step foot in another Mimi's Cafe again. Thanks for reading. P.S. Our server refused to honor our free appetizer coupon as well!
