LONDON, GB -- Renting a car? Beware of Avis. On June 2011 I rented a car with them in the north of Italy (Milan) and delivered it two weeks later in the south (Bari airport - reservation number 02255899BR2). On arrival the attendant immediately went to a spot on the sill under one of the doors (didn’t look at the rest of the vehicle, which we thought to be very strange) and reported a slight depression (no scratches at all). We told him we hadn’t caused said damage and he simply said it was not an Avis problem. Returning back home I was surprised to have been billed the amount of E$ 363.27 (over US$ 500 at the time) without notice!! I sent a detailed e-mail asking them to reconsider it since the evaluation was done at broad daylight whereas the car was delivered in a not well lit garage among other cars, and also the value was absurdly disproportionate to the ‘damage’. Having received no answer (except the auto-reply) a month later I sent another message restating the arguments and asking for a copy of the repair invoice and also the primary vehicle condition report. Two more months have gone by and they didn’t care to give any satisfaction whatsoever. We feel like we were the victims of a setup.
