Frontier Motors Complaint - Heater-Frontend-Leafsprings-Rusted Frame

Complaint
Review by benjward36 on 2011-11-22
LA GRANDE, OREGON -- I bought a 1996 Toyota Tacoma from Frontier motors LaGrande Oregon. With trade-in it was what they call rolling stock buy as is. I signed the contract in about August 2011. Looked under truck frame rusted. I needed new shocks. Took truck to general tires in LaGrande. they put it on hoist and pointed out my front end needed work so I had to replace stabilizers bars. And the rack and pinion joints cost nine hundred dollars. Here in November I ran the heater, it blows cold air. To fix this I REPLACED THE, twelve hundred dollars labor and heatercore. I have bought used vehicles before but never screwed over like this from this cheap dealer Frontier Motors. I took this problem to Frontier they said tough luck. You would think Frontier Motors would have put this truck inside for inspection they did not. If I would have been driving this Toyota Tacoma down the freeway and the front end went out I could have been killed or seirously hurt or even had caused some other vehicles to wreck. Point being there needs to be serious action or investagtion into contracts Frontier Motors sells for what they call rolling stock on used vichles. So they sold me a rolling stock 1996 Toyota Tacoma with bad frontend a heater that blew cold air and a broken right rear leafspring with a rust problem. Their going to cause people to get seriously injured on selling their used vehicles when they do not inspect them correctly. I did not know of the problems till two months after I purchased this Toyota Tacoma, so people beware. DO NOT BUY AUTOS OR PICKUP TRUCKS FROM FRONTIER MOTORS IN LAGRANDE OREGON. Their safety to you does not apply to customers they sell vehicles to according to their contracts.

This is why you should always have a trusted independant mechanic check out a used car before you buy it. Unfortunately it was sold to you as-is. Maybe trade that in on something better at another dealership?

A 15-year-old vehicle will have rust issues if the vehicle is from a known rust belt area...I assume that Oregon gets salt air from the Pacific Ocean. I know that Toyota bought back a number of Tacomas from the early 2000's due to rusted frames. You're taking a risk by buying a vehicle this old, unless it was well cared for from the start.
