United States Prisons Informative - Computers should be banned in state and federal prisons!

Review by mjholly on 2005-08-24
I suggest that computers hould be banned in all federal and state prisons in this country. Inmates do not deserve access to computers and the Internet. Keep in mind that 30% of inmates have been convicted of internet child pornography, luring children with the Internet, and other computer-related crimes. If we allow our prisons to have computers and Internet access, prisoners will still continue to commit crimes. Prisoners should do slave labor in mines shackled together in chains, mining uranium, gold, and other metals and minerals, not surfing the Internet. Prisons are supposed to be tough places for people who break the law. Also, please ban telephones in prisons.

Huh? Prisons have the Internet? That's news to me. And I thought they only have one telephone, which is a payphone and they're only allowed one phone call.

"30% of inmates have been convicted of internet child pornography, luring children with the Internet, and other computer-related crimes." Really-30%?? What a stupid unfounded statement.

If you see a bunch of children headed for the state prison, you'll know why.

That caught my eye as well, Slim. This guy makes doc, look like a "rocket scientist".

As one that works at a state prison, yes these guys/gals do have access to internet. And it is totally ridiculous. They also have cable tv, more than one phone call(they are collect)as well as 3 meals a day, laundry service and other amenities that 2star hotels offer. The problem is those making these stupid decisions are voted into office. By people that think everyone can be rehabilitated. WRONG. It's too good a place for most, not all of them. I don't know about the 30% deal though. Bring back "doing hard time" so they won't want to come back and be taken care of.

I say we do what the Brits did: Send all the criminals to another uninhabited island continent. Of course...that's why we have Aussies...HOWEVER, Antartica is still got a lot of available space - we could send them there. I'd be apt to behave if all my energy was being used to stay warm. There's something to that idea, I think.

You're slipping, Mike Holly. This complaint actually made sense.

Prisons are supposed to be tough places for people who break the law. We're not inhumane and you're concept of prison justice is way off. Our prisons are designed to be humane and not, I REPEAT, not designed to degradate the prisoner in any shape, form or fashion. How privileges are administered in prisons is strictly a matter of policy set forth by the state and board of prisons. Most prisons have strict policies on inmates activities on the internet and also the true degenerates are deprived of internet access, PERIOD.

For once he makes a halfway decent point. For a lot of criminals prison is an improvement. Free cable, 3 meals a day, no rent, free gym membership, lots of sex... ok the last one isn't so great.

Prisons should have no TVs, no athletic equipment, and be locked in cells for 23 hours a day. It should be punishment.

It sounds like none of you people really know what prisons are for. Prisons do not protect the public from wrong doers. They protect the wrong doers from the public. Prisons would be OK if they were run the way they were meant to be. But, you get wardens and guards that think the same way alot of you do, criminals are human beings. Now, before you all get jacked out of shape let me explain. What is a criminal?? A criminal is someone who has violated a law. Doesn't matter what law, doesn't matter if he killed someone, robbed someone, embezzaled money, what ever. The only people in prisons today are those that didnot have the money to "BUY THEIR WAY OUT". So what you are saying is: "Tough luck." It is your fault for not being able to buy your way out of trouble. Whether you people realize it or not, the biggest CRIMINAL in this country is STILL IN OFFICE AND HAS BEEN SINCE 1960's. I am talking about none other than the "ESTEEMED Senator Kennedy from Massachussetts!!!!! This guy gets drunk, drives a car off a bridge, kills a woman, and just because his brother is President, and his family has money HE DOESN'T EVEN GET INDICTED!!!!! And you want to know why our prisons can't do the jobs we built them to do!!! When you get right down to it, prisons, laws, and law enforcment is created by people that WE as citizens VOTE into office. Problem is NO ONE VOTES ANY MORE. But the are the first one's to gripe when things don't go their way. We have what 300 million people in the US. Let's just say 150 million are of voting age. According to the news there was only a 40% turn out last election, and 85% of ALL incumbents were reelected! You people have a chance to start making changes!! Next time you vote DON'T VOTE FOR SOMEONE THAT IS ALREADY IN OFFICE!!! They have proven that they are not going to do what YOU want. If you buy Admiral TV's, and they continually "explode" on you are you going to keep buying them??? Then why do you continue to vote for people that DON'T DO WHAT YOU WANT. As long as we keep them in office we have NO COMPLAINTS. Prisons were made to house those that cannot abide by the rules, not just those that don't have the money to "stay out". Let's start making changes--next time you vote PLEASE, DO NOT VOTE FOR THE INCUMBENT. Let's start letting these people know: "If you don't do what I put you in office for, and what I am paying you for, YOU WILL NOT STAY THERE!!!!!
