Amtrak Informative - Overcharges
WASHINGTON DC, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA -- Sunday morning I needed to travel from dc to New York via Amtrak. I attempted to use two of their quick ticket kiosks but both gave me error messages and informed me my order had been canceled. I pulled my credit card out and was told by a station worker to go to the Amtrak ticket counter. I go up to the counter and the woman processes my credit card and gives me my ticket. I travel from dc to ny and Monday night when looking at my bank statement online-Amtrak charged me twice for 136 dollar tickets. I called them up and the woman on the phone was extremely rude and insisted I made two transactions. After keeping me on hold for 20 minutes she comes back on the phone and tells me one of the kiosks charged me and tickets were never claimed. I told her that couldn't be because both informed the orders were canceled. She then tried to lecture me telling me that I should be careful with how I use my credit card and well was just using a really crummy form of customer service. Her attitude sucked and she could've been a little nicer. I told her I did the right thing by informing someone and maybe they should inspect their faulty equipment that lies to you and tells you an error has occurred and the order has been canceled when in fact it is charging your credit card. She is issuing me the refund and I will be waiting for it within the next 5-6 days but this goes to show you you cannot trust any sort of machine or merchant with your credit card. Their kiosks in union station are faulty and I do not recommend using them!
