Walmart Complaint - Look In The Box Before You Buy It - Inflatable Halloween Decoration

Inflatable Halloween Decoration - Complaint
Review by debrolfe67 on 2011-11-30
OLD SAYBROOK, CONNECTICUT -- I bought this outside decoration in the beginning of November. When I looked in the box, the item just stuffed in it with no packaging. I don't if all the parts where there or not. When I went to return it, less than 30 days later, I waited in line for 15 minutes to finally have a very rude lady tell me that I can't return it. I told her that the item appeared to be the store demo and was just stuffed in the box and she said that this item was not used as a demo in the store. I remember seeing it, it is the reason I bought it. The customer service lady was nasty every step on the way. As there was a long line of people behind me I just took it and left the store. Funny thing is if they had just given me a refund, i would have spend it in the store.

Seasonal merchandise is commonly not returnable. If it were, people would purchase their decorative items and return them after the holidays.

I can't find any return policy for seasonal or clearance items on Walmart's website. I guess they make it up as they go along. Too bad you didn't check the contents of the box before purchasing. That's always a good idea when buying seasonal items on clearance.

I would go back and speak to a manager

Are you sure there's supposed to be packaging material?

My son is a manager at Walmart and I asked him about this. He said seasonal items are not returnable after the holiday. However, he also said that at his store if a customer yells enough, they will get whatever they want no matter what.

Buddy, I think it's a shame someone has to show his backside in order to get what he wants or feels as justified. Your son should know, being a manager. I honestly believe before too long we won't be able to return anything anywhere.

I believe you have your date wrong Debro and probably should be the first of October for Halloween but we get your drift. Thanks for your review.

NH, he may have purchased it after Halloween, on sale, which means it may have been a clearence item.

Sometimes, customers pull things out of the boxes and just shoves it back in and that may have been the case here.

It's hard to tell if the CSR refused a return because it is seasonal or clearance, or if she too thought it should have packing.

I wonder if everything IS included. I would think you plug it in and it goes whoosh, no?

I like the thought of going back and yelling and screaming as Buddy01 mentioned, until they give in. Whatever works.

I think it was probably bought on clearance after Halloween and might have been the store demo. I have no idea if these inflatable decorations come with parts. From what I've seen, it looks like you just plug them in. If it works, the OP should just keep it. Assuming it was a clearance price, does the packaging really matter?

I was thinking the same thing Venice - I couldn't figure out if it was too difficult for the OP to figure out if it was complete or not.

I have an inflatable "decoration" here, and it did come with accessories. It isn't exactly for Halloween though.

Rule of thumb for me is that if the box is covered in more tape than cardboard, or it looks like it's been through my dryer at home, I try to avoid buying it.

Same here, clutzy, even on clearance. It's easy to tell if a box has been opened. If I really want the item, I check to make sure it's intact.
