NCO Financial Systems Informative - harassment/legal?
I recently started getting phone calls from 3 different people at NCO re: a supposed balance on an AMEX card. One was very polite, one just told me he found out where I lived for the lawsuit and the third gave me 3 days to refinance my house to pay them. These calls were all before I received any written communication from them.
After I received the first little notice, the third person I had spoken with called to ask if I had decided what to do. I told her I disputed the amount of the debt and had sent a VoD letter. She said that wouldn't stop them. Immediately after hanging up with her, "lawsuit boy" calls and I quote "My next call is to your husband to tell him what you did with this account. Got me?" and slammed the phone down. Over the next 2 days there were 3 phone messages to my husband on our voice mail from "lawsuit boy". NCO received VoD letter at 9am 8/31.
Today my husband gets a hand addressed envelope containing a letter to me (he is aware of situation) offering a settlement. Letter is dated 8/30, postmark is 8/31. Is this considered validation of debt? Since it the postmark would be the same as the receipt of the VoD letter, is this a violation?
I believe I may owe something, however have not received statements from AMEX for over a year and want to verify what is really my responsibility and what is fluff. Help!
