Bally Fitness Complaint - I paid $278.00 for a new enrollment. When I applied no one told me they were going bankrupt.

STRATFORD, NEW JERSEY -- I was a member of Bally's gym for many years because of my doctor's suggestion. I just renewed my application for one year in the amount of $278.00. I am finding it very difficult in getting my money returned. I am unemployed at this time and really could use that money for food but my doctor suggested I needed to exercise because of my health. What happens now and why did they take my application two weeks before they closed.

From what I found online, Bally's sold about 170 locations to LA Fitness last month (November), which leaves it with 100 locations. This was evidently associated with resolving debt going back to a bankruptcy of at least two years ago.

My guess, and it is only a guess, is that your location is either temporarily closed while a switchover to LA Fitness occurs, or that your location will simply close permanently.

Unfortunately, for legal or other reasons, companies don't advertise things like this ahead of time. I hope you can get an answer about your membership fee - that stinks.

It's possible the employees didn't even know the location was closing

Right, yaya.

I see that in fact LA Fitness closed some of the Bally's locations that they bought last month, and they TRANSFERRED home membership from the ones that closed to nearby LA Fitness clubs.

Is this what you were told, OP? If you are left completely without access to a LA Fitness or Bally's you should receive a refund.
