French Riviera Spa Complaint - French Riviera Bait and Switch
COVINGTON, LOUISIANA -- My wife was looking for a gym last spring and had just visited a local gym that was offering a no contract monthly fee of 39 dollars. She then visited the French Riviera gym where this owner said he had a no contract 20 dollar monthly fee. She decided to try the gym out and at the prior location she was able to work out semi-comfortably. This past fall they moved across the street and rearranged the equipment in a more crowded arrangement. She was very uncomforteable with the closeness of the free weight equipment and the inability to separate herself from group of younger males with conversations that were not for public consumption. The bathroom facilities are almost non-existent with one shower stall in a small batroom with a toilet and a sink. Therefore, if one wants to get a workout in prior to going to work therE could be a significant delay in getting access to the restroom. The owner said if the mens restroom was busy then I could use the ladies restroom. Because of the move to a new location and the substandard facilities, we tried to quit the gym, only to find that we were lied to about the there being no contract. There is a two year contract that my wife thought was an agreement to allow the gym to bill our credit card month to month. If you decide to join this gym remember that you will have a two year contract and you can not break it unless you are permanetly disabled or move more then 35 miles away from any member gym. Maybe you would like to drive 35 miles to workout, but most people would not. This is a bait and deception operation and I hope you will not make the same mistake that we did. You would hope that a contract would not hold up when you sign up in one location then they move to different location in a few months. I guess we should be grateful that they did not move the gym into a sewer. Dealing with Paramount is fruitless. They will threatened to harass you and attack your credit if you do anything to stop payment on your credit card. Since, I did not sign the contract, I wanted to get a copy of the sign contract they had on file. They said they would e happy to do so but would charge me 10 dollars for doing this. I gave them the Okay to do this, but have never received a copy of the contract in the past month since talking to representatives at the company. I talked to an old friend of mine that use to sell fitness equipement and he told me that the French Riviera is not a true fitness company but is interested on only marketing long term membership contracts and tie people to long term contracts by any means possible. Please be forwarned a do not deal with this company since you are very likely to have nothing but grief associated with the experience. This is a 2 year commitment that is almost impossible to break. Contract and business practices like this should not be allowed.
