Haier Complaint - Worthless Warranty - Haier Dehumidifier

Haier Dehumidifier - Complaint
Review by l.laemmli37 on 2011-12-17
NEW YORK, NEW YORK -- Purchased dehumidifier with "5 year warranty" 6/2008. It quit working Spring 2011-not even 3 years old. Fan and Motor worked, but no dehumidifying capability. (probably the sealed compressor) First call to service: received several repair numbers to call in my area. None would work on this product, or they were out of business. Called customer service, was given new #s to call. Again, no such business, or would not work on this product. I sent a letter to the company(unable to find an email address), after MUCH discussion and several phone calls, they gave me one more # for A&E factory service and said I could use them or they would replace the dehumidifier for 40% of the original purchase price. Just checked out A & E online--you would be amazed at the number of complaints about that company! I called them anyway, and guess what? They do not work on this Haier model HDN 455 dehumidifier! FYI- do NOT count on this company's warranty-it is pretty much worthless! should I really have to pay 40% of the purchase price to have a "warranted" working dehumidifier?

Was the warranty directly through Haier? For those in the know, Haier is a cheap factory's seconds brand and their products are generally considered disposable at best.

No. This is the problem with warranties. Many times they are worthless for the reasons stated in this review. Same goes for extended warranties. More often than not they are a waste of money.

I have owned Haier products, along with my friends, neighbors, family members and co-workers, and we all love them! Too bad the warranties are worthless.

Haier has sales in excess of 20 billion dollars a year, and has the largest portion of worldwide "white" goods sales.

The problem that the OP describes is unfortunate, but not unique to a Haier warranty. After 2 or 3 years, an item may no longer be serviceable due to NLA (no longer available) parts. One would hope that is the ultimate issue here, and not the company ducking its responsibility.

But does not issuing a warranty mean a company should stock replacement parts for at least the length of the original warranty? Why have a warranty?

I work with companies primarily in Guangdong, and am very familiar with Haier. Trmn8r was more than likely correct. Processes are changed almost weekly in an effort to cut production costs - parts are probably no longer available. Haier.... is considered second rate even in China.

If parts aren't available for a product that needs to be repaired under warranty, the product should be replaced. Problem solved.
