McDonalds Corporation Complaint - Fradulent Pricing Practices Involving Tax Rates
GLENDALE, ARIZONA -- 12-19-11 approximately 5:15 PM
McDonalds located at 20227 N. 67th Avenue, Glendale, AZ 85308
I ordered two McDoubles listed at $1.00 each. I was told the price would be $2.21. I asked why it was that price and was told the additional $.21 was for tax. I replied the tax rate in Glendale AZ, along with AZ state tax and Maricopa County is a total of 9.5%. On an order of $2.00 the total should have been $2.19 not $2.21, an overcharge of $.02. The assistant manager said the $2.21 is what the computer register indicated and he couldn't do anything about it, and, wouldn't do anything. So, I drove off.
As I drove off I started thinking of how many hundreds, possibly thousands of orders that location must sell each day, and each article is priced with an overcharge of just a small fraction but over a long enough time period, with enough volume it could amount to a substantial sum. This is just the sort of behavior OCCUPY WALLSTREET is concerned with in corporate America. What it really amounts to is fraud, plain and simple.
It's a neat scam, small amounts adding up to a huge amount of cash in the franchise owners pocket. I am notifying the attorney general in Arizona to see if anything can be done about it.
