Amana Complaint - Warranty Service Fraud And No Resolution From Amana - Front Load Washer

Front Load Washer - Complaint
Review by cindybabytalkbrady85 on 2011-12-22
ALBION, NEW YORK -- I called Amana in 10/2012 to repair my leaking front loading washing machine. They sent out a repair man from Ben's Appliance who said that it needed a part and it would be a few weeks, but to continue to use the machine. A month passed with no word, so I called Ben's appliance and was told there was no record of us needing a part, and he would call me back. He did not call me back, so about a week later I called Amana again and was told that they show the repair man “cleaned out the pump, and told me to keep it clean.” I told them that never happened. They talked to Butch at Ben's appliance who told them they would “order the part, to make you happy.” I did not like the condescending remark. On 12/21/2011 Ben's appliance showed up without an appointment and left a tag on our door. When my husband called to schedule a time to come out Butch said “That was my last trip to Albion.” When my husband tried to schedule a date for the repair, Butch said they were not coming out until one of their customers needed them. “We are not coming out for just you.” I call Amana again, and they are not very sympathetic. They would not extend my warranty despite my concern that water leaking through the appliance for 2 months may have caused electrical damage that could cause a fire. What Ben's Appliance has done is Fraudulent. They submitted a claim to Amana for a repair that was not done, while refusing to complete the repair they know was needed. They did this to avoid having to make a second trip when they only get paid one rate for the service call.

Is the unit under warranty? You have no obligation to use "bens" if not but Amana certainly needs to find another service agent for you (or get Ben with the program) if it is still covered.

To being with, I would assume the initial date reported is 2011 not 2012, as that date hasn't arrived yet.

As long as a service center is authorized for Amana service, they can service the product for you in or out of warranty.

It sounds as if there is a discrepancy as to a part being required for servicing the unit. I'm not sure how one came up with some arbitrary part that was said to not be required. That is, was the O.P. insisting a specific part be replaced and if so, which part?

There doesn't seem to be a reason to arbitrarily extend the initial warranty, as requested by the O.P. If extended service was so important however, such coverage could have usually been purchased with the initial purchase. In some cases, this additional coverage could be purchased during the initial period of warranty coverage. It may be worth contacting the initial retailer to see if this additional coverage is still available.

First of all, it's obvious that Ben's Appliance is to be avoided at all costs.

"They sent out a repair man from Ben's Appliance who said that it needed a part and it would be a few weeks, but to continue to use the machine."

Doesn't sound like the OP requested anything other than a working appliance. The discrepancy was with Ben's employees.

Of course there's a reason to extend the warranty. The customer had a leaking washer for two months because Ben's Appliance refused to service it. If Ben's negligence causes the washer to malfunction after the warranty expires, why should the OP be responsible?
