Mobil Gas Co Complaint - Gasline Price

Review by frankh2587 on 2011-12-27
FISHKILL, NEW YORK -- Pull off I84 in Fishkill NY to fill up with gas at the Mobil gas station at 10 W. Merritt Blvd on 12/26/11. The posted price for regular was $3.53 as stated to pump I notice the pump was showing $3.63. I stop and went into the store and asked why I paying $3.63 the girl said when you use a credit card it is $.10 more and that the sign states that. Don’t you think that it should be posted on the main sign. For that they just lost a customer, I had use them.

I just looked on line, and some gas stations charge as much as 50 cents more a gallon. This is considered a bait and switch according to what I was reading.

Contact your state department of consumer affairs. Here is the link:

The stations around here consider a debit card same as cash. I can save as much as .25 a gallon by using a debit card. A gas station selling cheaper for cash or debit is still higher than Costco though.

You would think that a Mobil would give a break for using a Mobil credit card? They never do, guess it's because they have farmed out all their credit card business to Citibank and others.

Usually, there is signage on the main sign to show "cash price", if they charge more for you to use a credit card.

My memory is that is was around the time of Katrina that gas stations in NJ largely went to charging more for using non-cash payment. It is not common over here in PA.

HOWEVER, NYS evidently PROHIBITS gas stations from charging a surcharge for using a credit card! Consider contacting the attorney general or the link in the first reply.
