Best Buy Complaint - Unknowingly charged for the Geek Squad service
ROANOKE, VIRGINIA -- I am curious if this happens to anyone. Please forgive my writing for I am not an American.
A year ago, I purchased a Sony laptop for my son. At the time of the purchase, I opted not to buy any special offers from Best Buyer. This year, my son's laptop was broken; I decided to return to Best Buy to buy another one for him.
As the BB clerk pulled our record from the last purchase to see if there is a protection plan on it. I noticed a transaction "Geek Squad" for $69.99 on the receipt. Surprised at this additional charge, I asked the clerk who then referred me to speak to a manager. After look at the receipt, he answered "Sorry, this happened before my time and nothing that can be done at this point".
I explained to him that I was not aware of this charge and wanted to know what was it for, since I had not used any services from BB before or after the purchase. He explained "Sometime the BB Geek Squad would work (format..etc..) on the laptops and put them back in the boxes to sell to the consumers. If you purchased one of these laptops, you would be charged for the Geek Squad services".
Frustrated for being tricked into pay for something that I wasn't aware or agreed to, I decided not to purchase anther PC or anything else at BB going forward. Loosing one customer may not mean anything to BB, but if this is the way BB operates, my suggestion for it is to change its name from "Best Buy" to "Bad Buy". This will help warn other consumers from being trapped liked I was.
Frustrated in Roanoke.
