Sprint Complaint - SPRINT Fraudulent Early Termination Fee
NEW YORK, NEW YORK -- Sprint charged me a fraudulent early termination fee. When I refused to pay, Sprint ruined my credit rating with all 3 bureaus.
On May 31 I bought a Sprint HCT Evo phone and I was told that I had 1 month to try it out, risk-free, with no early termination fee. After one month I decided that it was not for me. I returned it on June 30. I was then informed that "one month" actually meant "thirty days." This was not explained to me at any point when I was buying it and I could not find it anywhere in writing.
The people at the Sprint store agreed to accept the physical piece of equipment back (the Evo phone).
However when it came to the plan, Sprint customer service gave me the biggest headache and heartache.
I talked to at least 5 or 6 people on the phone. One supervisor told me clearly, that I was WELL WITHIN MY RIGHTS TO RETURN THE PHONE and get the fee waived. (This is saved in Sprint's computer notes from a conversation with Annette on July 1st at 11:36 am.)
However, after forcing me to speak with several more people, Sprint ultimately dictated that I had to pay the early termination fee. This amounted to almost $400 dollars.
I refused to pay, then or later, because I think this antic is highway robbery, cheating, and a total rip-off. Also I cannot afford it. The reason I went with Sprint in the first place is because they supposedly had the cheaper plan.
Sprint then proceeded to report me to all 3 credit bureaus. My credit, which was formerly good, took a 55-point plunge.
I have disputed the item with one credit bureau, but I have not been able to tell my whole story to them because they do not provide enough space for an explanation. They turned me down once, now I am disputing it again.
My conclusion is that my credit is ruined, and that Sprint is a dishonest, unscrupulous company that takes advantage of consumers. It bleeds every last drop out of its customers, and does not keep its own promises.
Do not use Sprint! Sprint is terrible! I hate Sprint!
In the meantime I went to Verizon which is much better, and Verizon has not given me any problems so far.
