Guardsman Protection Plan Complaint - Guardsman Protection Plan is a JOKE..DOn't do it!!! - Leather Couch

Leather Couch - Complaint
Review by melissashannon on 2012-01-09
BOONTON, NEW JERSEY -- I bought my couch in 2008 from Ashley Furniture. I was talked into getting the premium protection plan, which was somewhere in the range of $400.00 additional on the cost of the furniture.

I had ripped the couch with the heel of my shoe and called the same day to file a claim. They sent out a "certified claim assessor" to take pictures. He said that it was not a rip from the heel of my shoe but from a dog. It WASN'T. No one from Guardsman called me to inform me that they would not be accepting the claim. I had to call them and spoke with the RUDEST person I have ever spoken to. He basically called me a liar and said they would not re-evaluate the claim. I then asked to see the pictures and and a copy of the report as I wanted to confirm that he did in fact have the correct images and he told me that "the claim was DENIED and that it is...he was not going to continue to discuss it with me". Really?? Ugh, I am so annoyed.

Both Guardsman and Ashley Furniture have lousy reputations for service and quality. You can make an official complaint to http://www.state.nj.us/oag/ca/ocp/complaints.htm and http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/index.shtml which, if nothing else, will add to the other reports of dissatisfaction about these companies.

I wonder why it matters to them whether it was a dog or a shoe?

This is exactly why I suggest getting educated about the retailer one buys through and the protection plans being offered. This "Guardsman" is a third-party protection plan that Ashley has sold. Generally, this is where additional warranty programs pick up a bad name. I've always suggested and recommended warranty programs being offered should be administered and backed by the company and people selling them. You'll find a great deal more success when using it this way.
