WSVN Miami Complaint - Blackout of DirecTV customers

Review by ddavidkeller210 on 2012-01-14
MIAMI, FLORIDA -- Somehow WSVN and DirecTV couldn't manage to reach an agreement so DirecTV customers no longer have access to Channel 7 Miami, including today's NFL playoff game.
A bunch of corporate big shots decided consumers should suffer. What a surprise.
I'm sure its all about the money. For both DirecTV and Channel 7.
A bunch of arrogant greedy executives on both sides.

In most of these cases it is the station that wants to charge DirecTV (or DISH, cable companies) an excessive amount. There is greed on both sides but in this case the station is the greedier of the two.

As a side note I cannot understand why this condition ever exists. I would seem that advertisers would want the broadest exposure possible. By a station being dropped their audience is reduced. Not to the benefit for the station or its advertisers. I think advertisers could influence this trend if they wanted to.

Interesting Chuck because I always thought it was the other way around. A station forever being charged price increases for the benefit of carrying a particular program once it became popular and there was a demand by the subscribers.

one more reason to 'ditch the dish'!!!!

madC, it's not DirecTV that is at fault here. This same issue will occur with the cable companies as well.

This is why we downgraded to basic cable. We would have fired them altogether, but we get no reception at all without it. The disputes with ABC (during "Lost" and the Academy Awards) and FOX (during the World Series!), resulting in blackouts, were the last straws.

The reassurance that disruptions of this kind are of short duration is little comfort when your favorite team is playing in the dark.
