Abercrombie Complaint - Disgusted

Complaint
Review by Lvoightmann on 2012-01-17
OAK BROOK, ILLINOIS -- I brought my 10 year old daughter to A&F yesterda on MLK Jr. Day. Thanks to their promotion
Of promiscuity, my daughter has now been exposed to soft porn. She & I were both shocked at the seductive pictures that we're not only on all the walls, but on the clothing tags as well. We won't be buying any clothes there, due to the plain disregard for family values & purity. A & F only cares about the immediate sale, not what they are inscribing in the minds of young people. Long term, let's see them pay for all the underage pregnancies that occur... Or STDs that come about due to their illicit promotion of underage sex.

Surprised that they aren't handing out condoms at the door. Seriously! Not cute...

Yikes, this has been a normal complaint against A&F and Hollister for a while. I'm a young woman and i find their ads to be even too much for my eyes.. And I'm in my mid twenties. Also, the men that you often see standing in the front of the store shirtless makes me want to puke. It doesn't put me in the mood to shop... It makes me feel weird and uncomfortable to have these dudes shirtless leering at you.

We see these complaints all the time and my only question is why go into the store if you do not like what is on the outside. A and F have the pictures at the entrance of the store also. so it is not as if it is a shocker once you get into the store. I personally will not shop in the store because of this, but I also made the decision because of what you can see from the entrance. Hollister does not have the photos, but they also own GillyHicks and that is who has the have naked male model at the entrance. I am suprised malls allow that. But again, if I saw a half naked model at the front door it is not a place I would bring my child into.

Hollister has some racy pictures but they aren't as in your face as A and F. They are mostly toward the middle and back of store. At the mall I work at, both at A and F and Hollister had shirtless male models on weekends sometimes and high volume seasons. I hated it and very rarely ever go in to even look... But I would agree that it is not a store to bring a ten year old in..

Definitely not a store to take your tween to. But, have you never been in a mall before? Was this your first time even walking past an A&F?

Abercrombie and Fitch is overrated. So of course they have to use posters that sexualize and show off promiscuity to get people into their store. I have never liked their clothes, their prices are outragious and i just think the store is tacky..Went into the store once, never went into it again. I prefer cheap off brands than that junk lol.

Please tell me which of the photos of the adult models promoted underage sex?

A&F is proud of their history of pushing the envelope on using sexual imagery and innuendo in their advertising. Recently, they were promoting a padded bikini top for girls the age of your daughter (until public outrage caused them to yank that advertising).

Abercrombie and Fitch.
aka by me, as Crabbymommie and Bitch.

I tried to go into Crabbymommie and Bitch the other day, with my 8 year old daughter in tow, to purchase an outfit for my Neice for her birthday.

I was, of course, as it is not news anymore....1.) assaulted by the overbearing perfume smell, 2.) approached by a vapid looking (presumably with bursted eardrums, from the high decible music) teen retail clerk, and 3.) after about 60 seconds in the ear pounding dark smelly store, I ran like hell out of there, in a foul mood, holding my ears. My daughter agreed that the music hurt her ears and the smell made her sick. I hope to never go in there again. I went back to another nearby pre-teen store, and heard countless tales of other Mom's taking refuge from Crabbymommie and Bitch in the other store and making purchases in the other store, rather than at Crabbymommie. The $50.00 I spent there, was not spent at Crabbymommie.

What kind of anti-public relations are they running in that hell hole? I know I am not cool enough, young enough or thin enough to wear their rank clothes. But I am the one holding the pocket book, and untill my daughter can drive herself with wallet in hand, 8 years from now, I hope to never step in there again. I would possibly reconsider if they 1.) turned down the music to a normal level of enjoyment (enjoyment, not torture), 2.) stop spraying the rank perfume 3. ) there is nothing you can do about vapid sales people, they are rampant these days...possibly, possibly I would go back in.....

There is the other issue of their advertising campaign, ie. selling 8 year olds padded bras, but I haven't experienced or researched enough of that to have an opinion. Anyway, it's my choice to go in there or not and spend my money there, or not, and I choose NOT.

I can only guess that their brand relies on some twisted sort of intentional anti-PR tactic. The more they turn off the parents, the more the kids want to buy there. Or is it some kind of "cool boot camp"? If you make it thru the smell, the ear drums bursting and the vapid stares, long enough to clutch at a skimpy pair of unravelling jean shorts, you win the cool award? What am I in High School? So fine, 8 years from now, if they are still in business, which I am starting to think they may not be, my daughter can go there with her friends. Untill then, Crabbymommie and Bitch...
