Outback Complaint - Why Was I The Last To Be Served

Complaint
Review by rbecleisure on 2012-01-17
ELLICOTT CITY, MARYLAND -- Went to dinner after working - a treat for me. Waited and got a table, finally ordered food - onion, salad & steak. Waited got my onion. Waited for salad - two different tables - one in front of me and across from me got their salad and I was still waiting. Problem was they had gotten there 10 to 20 minutes after me. Ate my salad waited for my steak - again the other two tables got their food. Asked for the manager - finally my steak came - cool. The manager sais she would try to find out why the other tables were served before me. At that time just took the steak home, paid my bill and waited for the manager. I went to the front and asked to apeak with the manager. She finally came out and said that if I was in a rush I had tell them. I was not in a rush, I just wanted to know why I had to wait for other tables. They got their food and I finally got cool food. Why?

And what did the manager say?

Your order may have taken longer to cook, depending on the cut of meat and how you wanted it prepared and what the other tables ordered. My dining companion at a Longhorn BBQ was told his steak would take approximately 45 minutes to cook to order, prompting him to opt for something different, as my entree choice would only take 20.

How did you order the steak cooked? Well done steaks take longer than medium rare. Even if the steak looked well done, it could what is called black and red (burnt on the outside, raw on the inside.)

You're eating at a chain restaurant not Morton's. This is not a criticism, I eat at Outback also. The problem with all of these chain joints is it's hit or miss. Some are better than others. The worst offender for consistently bad food and service from my experience has been Applebee's. After an hour we still didn't have our food. The manager refused to come to our table. The waitress apologized and said "They're clowning around in the kitchen and won't give me my food." We walked out. They lost a customer.

Outback is one of the better chain restaurants. You had a bad experience. Try another location next time.

I believe Morton's is a chain also.

True but their level of service and food quality is far above Outback. They are well managed and give the customer a true dining experience.

They also cost about 4 times as much.

yeah I'd expect excellent service if I was shelling out $100 for a steak.

I didn't say Morton's was worth the money, only that they have good food and offer great customer service. If you have the bucks to spend this is the place to go. I'm looking for value and good food. Outback offers this but they are not consistent like other chain joints. I have had good luck with them an will return.

If you want a good steak in the area, go to Longhorn Steakhouse; is is on Snowden River Parkway just off 175; I have NEVER had bad food or bad service there.

Maybe the other tables asked to be served faster..Most time I go out to eat if there is a salad or appetizer being served they hold off on making food so that you can enjoy each course. Next time tell them you like to have food come out faster ...I also agree that it does depend on what you ordered and how you had it cooked..

We live in western Washington (snowed in right now)and are bombarded by TV ads for Longhorn. The only problem is, according to the chain's website, the closest Longhorn to us is in KANSAS! The ads look great, but why in the world are they playing in a state half a country away?

We have a couple Longhorn BBQ restaurants here in Washington Star, which are not to be confused with Longhorn Steakhouse. (Took me awhile to untangle the knot and acknowledge the difference).

You're not missing much Lexo. It's a lot like Outback. Mediocre quality beef served up to people who can't tell the difference in a spiffy plastic corporate atmosphere.

Was the server the same person? I notice that some servers are slower, or they have big tables to serve which take a lot of their time, which means the length of time to get the order into the kitchen and the food back out to the customer take longer. I hate it when I give my order, then the server immediately goes over to a big table which takes 10 minutes getting their order together, all the time during which my order is sitting in the server's tablet.

Perhaps the waiter at the other time only had a few tables, so that the server could get the order right into the kitchen, and wait for the food to come out.
