Ikea Complaint - Poor return policy - Kitchen Island
COSTA MESA, CALIFORNIA -- My daughter purchased an Ikea Kitchen Island for me for a Christmas gift. She purchased the gift through their online department. My wife and myself decided we would like something better for our house, got a copy of the receipt from my daughter, and tried to return the item to the Costa Mesa store. While the store would give a store credit for her purchase they would not credit back the purchase to her card since we did not have the physical card with us at the time. When we called the online department they stated we could either return the item for $30.00 in shipping charges and get back the price paid to her card or we could bring in the original card and get the money back on her card.
My daughter lives five hundred miles from where we live so getting the card is not easy. When asked if the credit card number was on file with the order they said "yes it was". They were willing to take the order without the physical card but would not give a credit back to the original card without the physical card or paying for shipping.
I recommend not shopping Ikea online since unlike every other online store with brick and mortar locations they deliberately make returning an item almost impossible.
