AMR Towing And Auto Repair Complaint - Faulty Repair - Tune Up

Review by judy 1048 on 2012-01-24
SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH -- They replaced thr plugs in my 2001 Kia in January 2011. When I went to replace the plugs on my own (Jan 2012) I discovered that they had tightened the #3 plug so tight that it broke off in the engine, so I had to have them tow it back to the shop to get the part out and replace a new plug, of course they charged me towing and for replacing the plugs. $130.00 For something they did. They would not admit it was their fault even though I retained the receipt to prove it. Buyer beware of mechanical repairs from this company.

spark plugs can become 'glued' in after the heat of the engine takes effect. spark plugs are tightened to a specific torque. it would be extremely hard to prove the installer caused this after one year.

Check if your car insurance company covers towing. I have StateFarm and they refund any towing charges to me and all I have to do is send them a copy of the towing receipt. I have been surprised at how many people pay insurance and never realizes they have towing included...or they don't think about it. It's worth checking into.

Madconsumer is right. They did not break the plug, or the vehicle would have run rough from the beginning in 2011 - been there, done that. When someone attempts to remove a tight plug, it is very easy to put the pressure on the plug at an angleand snap the top of the plug off, especially when there is a tight fit to get to the plug. Proper tools, e.g. swival sockets, long handled rachet wrenches, are important to use in such situations. It is easier to go buy them, then to have the car towed.
