Geek Squad - 1-888-Geek-Squad Informative - Not Real Geek Squad - Scam
TUCSON, ARIZONA -- I called 1-888-GEEK SQUAD (1-888-624-6654) and scheduled an appointment with the installation department to change out my HD cables after we did some trouble shooting. I told them I didn't think I was getting the higher input speed that I was supposed to be getting. The tech told me that the cables had to be certain colors. I told them the only colors on my cables were around the neck of the connection cables nearest the cable box which was a small area. I was told the cables were wrong. I was told they needed to schedule an appointment to have these cables changed so I scheduled an appointment with them for Wed. 1-25-12 between 12PM to 4PM. A little before 4PM on 1-25-12 I received an automated call "confirming my appointment for 1-27-12 between 12PM-4PM." I called 1-888 GEEK SQUAD and was told that my appointment time was rescheduled to Friday the 27th between 12-4 and that my original appointment was changed "2 seconds" after I hung up. No one called me to inform me of this. When someone from the real Geek Squad came on 1-27-12, he told me that I should've called the local store in my town and they would have troubleshooted with me for FREE. He also said that 1-888-GEEK SQUAD was a 3rd party and they only say they are associated with the Geek Squad and Best Buy. This fake Geek Squad charged me $150 for this. I'm going to call them and tell them to refund my money and see how far I have to go to get it refunded. But do not under any circumstances call 1-888-GEEK SQUAD because they are a SCAM.
