YOU MUST UPGRADE! is all I hear when I ask for computer help. I just bought a new computer with windows 7. Now, my 7 yr old $400.00 printer won't work, no driver made for Win 7. my 6 yr old accounting software is incompatible. Out of 30 plus programs and games only 2 work. What is wrong with using older programs and printers if they work why would spent $1000.00 to get new crap. The only reason I got a new computer was it was cheaper than upgrading the old computer to be able to run the newer software I needed. OMG I have a 4yr old son I guess I should throw him out with the trash and get a new one, and OMG my car is 10 yrs old holy crap it's the end of the damn world. I understand newer is better but what, it can't be that damn hard to make the older crap work on new equipment.

Yes, that is unfortunate that you must update your programs to be compatible wirh the lastest operating system. There is another option you can try: Go to Microsoft website and download a program called "XP Mode" which allows you to run XP programs and drivers.

My HP printer didn't work with Windows 7. Good thing I was able to find a update on the HP website.

Printers, especially lower end ones, have become pretty much disposable. I don't know about higher end ones though - should last longer. 7 years is a bit old IMO, for a printer.i

I am still using Photoshop 5.5 ca. 2002 and Office 2003. I may run into trouble with my next upgrade, however. I could keep this machine on the side, since it is virtually worthless, just to retain access to the software. In a business environment, that isn't an option.

Good tip, Mr. Mike!

You don't HAVE to upgrade, it's just easier. If you want to continue to use products that are obsolete, you should expect consequences. XP is no longer receiving updates and within the next 2 years VISTA will be out as well. You can get an entirely new system (tower, monitor AND printer) for less than 500 bucks.

Please don't throw your son out. My mother threw me out, and it wasn't a nice thing to do, nor pleasant.

You're right. Computer manufacturers often don't make drivers for old equipment.

if costs money to make software, therefore they're going to spend their time and money making drivers for new equipment. Making drivers for old stuff just in case one person still uses it?... rather inefficient

Computer technology is constantly improving. the 'new' computer you seem so proud of was obsolete before it ever left the factory. I myself have griped about older software that will not run on newer machines, but at least you have the capability to upgrade your unit. Look at how televisons have improved, and you have to buy a new set to keep up. Think of what it would be like if uyou were limited to my grandfather's Philco, which had a cabinet like those old timey radios, and a nine or ten-inch screen, and only black and white.
