DirecTV Inc - Bait and Switch
Package Change - Complaint
DANVILLE, VIRGINIA -- I have had DirecTV for years (minus a couple of months when I tried UVerse). I purchased a Choice Xtra package at $65.99 and everything has been fine until today. Today I changed to the Cloo channel (308)which is one of the channels that I view the most and record the most, because it has House, MD. Today it said that this channel is "not purchased" and told me to try several steps to "reset" my channels, which did not work. So I called the company, and after about 30 minutes finally got to talk to a human, who told me that that channel is no longer in my package, but I could get it back by upgrading to a premium package for $9.00 more a month. I thought this was very suspect, since it happens to be a channel I watch very frequently, and it is the only one that has been removed.
After much protest on my part, I was told they could give me a $10 discount for 12 months so I could get the premium package for the same amount, after which of course, the bill would go up $10.00. I asked to speak to a supervisor who offered to send me the customer agreement that says they have the right to change the programming at any time. I told her I thought it was highly suspect that the channel I watch most would be the only one changed.
I think they can tell which channels you watch and record the most. She said that every January they renegotiate with the channels and they tell DirecTV which package they want to be in. I said I find it hard to believe that a channel would say, "Oh yes, we want to be in the more expensive package, not the one most people can afford." I shouldn't have to pay $10.00 more for ONE CHANNEL that was included in the package that I purchased when I bought their product (DirecTV). I think this is simply a case of bait and switch so they can get more money out of you.
Has anyone else experienced this? I would also like to know if anyone else with the same package I have has lost the Cloo Channel (308). I'm betting not. I wonder if they lost the channel they watch the most.
