Whirlpool - Repairs Only Once a Week.
Energy Saver Hot Water Heater - Complaint
OHIO -- Bought it Feb 1; worked fine till Feb 9; 120 degrees registering on tank, but was still able to hold hands under without cold water on... hadn't taken the time to read on how to raise temp or fill out warranty card..when stopped working. Opened the front panel.. Was flashing red 12 times...brochure shows up to 9 flashes...Called Lowe's (where we purchased this & they tried to sell us a longer warranty).. Call the number on your brochure.. ok..Whirlpool.. know the serial, model, & product#. They will inform you of a couple of repair folks.. You will find most won't come to this area of SE OH.. too far OR they just don't have anyone in This area.. I know there are electricians &/or plumbers.
Set us up with an A&E electrician.. Only come here on Mondays between 8&5.
OK. Came 9am Feb 12.. Strange that it was flashing 12 times & book only went to 9. Went to van..computer & phone..problem is electronic thermostat. Since new product..not enough problems w that part, so not on van. (Or not enough "suckers" buying them) Anyway..will be ups overnight.
Was worried about installing the part so as to not violate the warranty. He said Whirlpool won't know about it..we didn't need to be without hot water anymore than the 6 days already.
Part did arrive next day (9am). Inserted it according to directions from the man & the paperwork. Now flashed 7 times..Oops now there is a lower thermostat sensor failure...You have got to be kidding.
We had to tear out the door frame (tank is wider than old one), redo all the plumbing & on & on..we all know what plumbing repairs consist of.. besides having to hand empty the old tank..hose wouldn't work.. OMG>> now what? Maybe they will have a heart and send the guy back before a week..
Nope.. wound up being even longer because he was already full for that Monday. (More of us 'suckers'?) Gave a couple of other repair people they work with..too far for them..OH, we could use someone in the area & they (Whirlpool would reimburse up to $75) The tank was $499..wanted to go green & try to save some electric...Don't know electricians or plumbers who charge $75 or less an hour. So to make an already long story short..
$499 lemon on deck waiting for someone to help us carry it down the stairs..(did I forget to mention the Stairs?). Went back to Lowe's & bought a regular $219 tank..OMG it is a Whirlpool too.
Our old one, in house since 1989, was an American Standard... Yes, we definitely got our $149 out of it.
Just how can any company sell products without proper & timely repairs. Have you been without hot water these days? You can't legally rent a house without hot water? How can you legally or morally let folks go without proper coverage..????
Drained water again..yes hose worked this time.. Did the Stairs again, did the plumbing again, And electric again..scared to put door frame up around the utility closet.. What if??? What happened to peace of mind & American 'standards'?
