State Farm - Buyers Beware

State Farm Auto Insurance

COLORADO SPRINGS, COLORADO -- Buyer beware, there could be company trouble. I have had State Farm insurance for my cars and home for over 20 years. State Farm just completed a car policy review and dropped us with little notice or explanation. Our local agent has been a family friend and admits that the company is dropping a lot of long time customers and he no longer can explain his lack of influence at the corporate level. We have had a total of 6 car accidents over this 20 year time frame and put in a claim on 5 of the accidents. I am completely at a loss for how thousands of dollars in premiums over 20 plus years and only 5 car claims gets long time loyal customers dropped. I will be seeking a new company to move all my insurance products. State Farm appears to be cherry picking the policy markets they want to be in and long time customer loyalty means nothing to them. Consumers should ban together on this report similar incidents to their States Department of Insurance to keep this now dishonest company in check.

Were any of the accidents your fault that you put a claim in for? If so perhaps they are thinking that paying out on average of every four years for at fault accidents is not economical for them and that may be why they are dropping you. If you are not at fault for all or any of them, it doesn't seem right for them to just randomly choose to drop long time customers. I'd search for someone better.

My guess and it is only a guess is your accident/claim history is to blame. I've had State Farm since 1979 and I've had zero accidents and three comprehensive claims.

A claim every 4 years sounds like a lot at a glance. Consider if your average claim was $2000, that is $500 a year. My premium for three vehicles is $650 a year.

I think a claim every four years is a lot of claims, particularly, if they are at-fault claims.

That many accidents indicate a poor risk driver for the insurance company. Terminator's ghost is right, in that even minor accidents now are several thousand dollars. Also, the OP does not say what is on his traffic ticket record. A number of traffic tickets - plus - accidents, indicate someone who does not qualify for State Farm, which really is for low risk drivers.

I'm wondering why the family friend/agent couldn't tell you why you were being dropped. Could they not log into the system? If they couldn't log in, why were they not allowed to?

If they are still an agent, then they could look it up and tell you why.

I SUPPOSE THAT IF YOU HAVE HAD 5 CLAIMS IN MULTIPLE CARS, YOU ARE PAYING BETWEEN 400-500 PER MONTH. CLAIMS ARE COVERED WITH YOUR PAYMENT AND THEY ARE STILL MAKING PROFIT. I HAVE FOUND OUT THAT OTHER INSURANCES ARE MORE RELIABLE AND LESS EXPENSIVE. WHEN YOU ARE INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT/CLAIM THEY COVER LESS THAN OTHER INEXPENSIVE INSURANCES. GOOD FOR YOU, YOU ARE NOT THERE ANYMORE!!!

I HAVE BEEN A LOYAL LONG TIME CUSTOMER OF STATE FARM. RECENTLY I HAVE HAD TWO FINDER BENDERS AND THREE SPEEDING VIOLATIONS AND WAS DROPPED BY THEM THE ACCIDENTS WERE 1. I HIT A BUMPER IN A PARKING LOT THAT HAD BEEN FILLED WITH BONDO AND THEY REPLACED THE PERSONS BUMPER ON MY INSURANCE.

2. I WAS STOPED AT A STOP SIGN LOOKED BOTH WAYS AND MOVED FORWARD AND A SPEEDING CAR RIPPED OF MY FRONT LICENCE PLATE THE POLICE DID NOT CITE ME, BUT MY INSURANCE COMPANY DID, WITHOUT A CITATION THEY(THEN DROPPED ME). I WAS DROPPED WITH NO WARNING. THEY HAVE CAUSED ME A GREAT DEAL OF TROUBLE AND I FEEL THEY HAVE NOT BEEN FAIR WITH THEIR DEALINGS WITH ME... I WOULD SUGGEST GOING TO A DIFERENT INSURER
