Discover Card Financial Services - Beware - DISCOVER CARD does not protect consumers

SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH -- About 2 months ago I got a call from Discover Card Fraud Security area advising me they had mailed a replacement card to me in another state per my request and now they suspected it was fraudlent. This is when the nightmare began. I advised them I had never requested this and they closed the account (an account I've had for well over 10 years, with a $10K credit limit, that I use frequently and pay in full each month).

The were supposed to send me a new card - this took 3 phone calls because they kept failing to follow-up and complete the task. With the new card they gave me a $200 limit and then charged me a $25 over limit fee because my current charges for the month exceeded $200. Another nightmare getting that reversed.

They never filed a police report in the state where the fraud occurred (they lied and told me they had done so). The refuse to provide me any information about the fraud, requiring me to go to my local police and file a police report so I can supeona the records.

I asked them why they mailed the card to a strange address and then called to see if it was fraud (instead of just calling first) and they said "that is our normal practice if a member says they're traveling and the card was lost".

In any event, I have filed a complaint with the State's Attorney General, the Better Business bureau, am in the process of filing a police report and also intend to sue in small claims court to have them pay all costs involved and for credit monitoring for 3 years.

I also am working locally with the ABC affiliate to get in on the news.

Hope it was worth it to them to screw a long-term customer.

That's a shame, and very surprising. I've had Discover for years and on a couple occasions, have had fraud issues. Each time, they wiped the charges and I had a new card with the same credit limit within a week.

Sounds like the "luck of the draw" when it comes to a customer service representative. Slim got a representative that could think, reason and act appropriately to a customer problem.

Unfortunately you got stuck with an incompetent idiot handling your issues.

i recently had a fraudulent charge on my discover card (paid to order MY credit report) and discover was right on it. they reversed the charge, called the vendor, and sent me a new card. I was impressed by their service

Discover has sent fraudulent cards out in my husband's name for the 4th time! Someone from Miami keeps calling and ordering new cards by changing the address and they keep sending them knowing there is a safe guard system on the account! How does this keep happening???!!
